Try taking a deep breath. Did the air make a noise as it went in? Try again now, with your mouth more open. Did it still make a sound? Keep trying to take a deep breath. Let the air flow freely so that its nearly silent. Now go find a mirror. Take another silent breath and then try singing an 'ah' vowel on any pitch without making any change to the throat, mouth or neck. How relaxed and still can your body be while inhaling and singing? For added fun, try doing this while laying down, with your head resting on thin pillow or the floor. How did it feel? What worked for you? what didn't? How much of your full range can you sing with this easy feeling? How can you make your performances feel this easy?

In my studio, most of our discoveries will begin with questions! We all know what good singing is to some extent. We know it when we hear it, and hopefully when we do it too. While many aspects of good singing are universal; I think its important to recognize just how different individuals are. What methods and strategies help them sing better are equally varied. Let's find what works for you!

It is my mission to help singers discover what works best for them; to create a technique that allows them to reach their musical and artistic goals, singing music they love regardless of genre and building a technique that allows for a tremendous amount of fun and creativity.

About Timothy A.

Timothy A-K MM is a recent graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music with degrees in Vocal Performance and pedagogy. While studying at the Conservatory he performed as a soloist in Opera, Oratorio, and discovered a particular love of English Operetta, often portraying lead tenor roles in the works of Gilbert & Sullivan—Most notably Frederic in The Pirates of Penzance. Of a recent performance of his, the Boston Musical Intelligencer noted that "He sang with purity and conviction, enunciating perfectly, and acting without a touch of guile." Tim has been writing vocal music almost as long as he has been singing, working primarily on short comic operas and songs. A Game of Werewolf, his second completed work for the stage, earned him a place in One Ounce Opera’s Fresh Squeezed Ounce of Opera showcase. His scholarship and performance of the British Music Hall song “Alonzo the Brave” earned him the grand prize in the Lester Levy “Save Our Songs,” competition. As a vocal instructor, Tim is committed to helping students sing sustainably and beautifully by establishing a technical foundation that supports and encourages artistry. In Tim’s studio, you can expect to find a welcoming space for trying new things, singing songs that you love, and working together to find your unique voice.
