I am originally from Long Island, NY. I studied music education at George Mason University in Fairfax, VA, where I was a saxophone student of Dale Underwood. After undergrad, I moved back to Long Island where I taught high school band for eight years. Also during that time, in between school years and over four summers, I earned a masters degree in music education from Northwestern University. Most recently, I became a Teaching Assistant and PhD student at the University of Illinois.
National Association for Music Education (NAfME), among the world’s largest arts education organizations, is the only association that addresses all aspects of music education. NAfME advocates at the local, state, and national levels; provides resources for teachers, parents, and administrators; hosts professional development events; and offers a variety of opportunities for students and teachers. The Association orchestrates success for millions of students nationwide and has supported music educators at all teaching levels for more than a century.
Since 1907, NAfME has worked to ensure that every student has access to a well-balanced, comprehensive, and high-quality program of music instruction taught by qualified teachers.
Never had a music teacher that could motivate me more. A great mix of humor and hard work made classes and lessons fly by and come out of them learning so much
Mr. Caskin was my instructor for 3 years in a concert band setting. Under his guidance I constantly felt challenged, but also constantly improved. In those 3 years he made me a better musician than I ever thought I was capable of being. He is not only an efficient and effective teacher, but also a genuinely amazing person who is a pleasure to work with. I highly recommend Tim Caskin!+ Read More
I was very lucky to have been taught by Mr. Caskin for my entire high school career. I was in his high school band class during his first four years on the job and had the pleasure to watch him grow as both a musician and a teacher. Mr. Caskin's innate musical talent is undeniable---his passion for music and positivity resonates throughout every session.
During my senior year, I had an independent study with Mr. Caskin. He helped me grow, not only as a percussionist, but also as a piano player as well as a songwriter. As a student who has always had the passion of pursuing music as a career from a young age, Mr. Caskin went above and beyond what can be expected from a high school band teacher to not only mentor me, but he also guided me in the right direction. In fact, Mr. Caskin was one of the reasons I pursued music into my secondary education, as he was always very supportive of the idea, and helped me through the process.
Mr. Caskin is an incredible teacher and mentor--anybody would be lucky to learn from him, as he is certain to bring the best out in any student he instructs!!!
Weekly lessons from Tim Caskin got me into the New York State high school band. Tim thoroughly prepared me for the audition by teaching me how to better practice and improve both technically and artistically. Tim is kind and encouraging in addition to his knowledge and experience. I highly recommend Tim Caskin.+ Read More
Tim takes an amazing approach to teaching music. He always teaches with a perfect balance of fun and determination to make sure you are learning the best way possible. Some people learn more quickly than others and Tim does a great job at changing his teaching methods to reach specific needs.
I am honored to have learned what Tim had to teach. He was a fantastic teacher and mentor.
Would recommend 10x over!
I was very fortunate have Mr. Caskin as both my concert/jazz band instructor and a mentor during my 4 years in high school. He was able to set reasonable expectations for each student while remaining patient throughout the teaching process. Our jazz ensemble had great success under his leadership, garnering various sweepstakes and best in show awards as result of his guidance. The band's acheivements were a testament to the significant chunks of time he spent with each member throughout the year. His passion for music was unmatched by any other teacher or instructor I have had over the duration of my music career.+ Read More
Tim Caskin was by far my favorite band teacher I had. He was very helpful and was always willing to help. To this day, he will always be a teacher, friend, and someone you can relay on.
Mr. Caskin was easily the best teacher I had in high school. As a kid I looked up to him for being a born educator who managed to balance a sort of fiery, mad genius' intellectual intensity, born of a deep passion for the arts of both music and teaching, with a friendly and nurturing demeanor something close to what a cool twentysomething cousin would be like if he was in a position of formal authority. Now that I'm a little older myself, I have a better understanding of why I thought he was so neat. He can speak to you on your level because his motivations are pure---to teach and learn about music---but his ability to communicate without pretense never erodes his authority as an expert in his field, because he is very clearly just super knowledgeable and sick at saxophone. Conversely when he corrects your mistakes or offers constructive criticism, it never stings because you know it's coming from someone you trust personally and professionally, and you end up feeling proud of his high expectations for you. He's the kind of band teacher who plays his class John Adams and then uses it to segue into a Dead Poets Society-esque group dialogue about aesthetics and the possibility of meaning in music, gently coaxing out sincere intellectual engagement from even the ditziest floutist, the most taciturn timpanist. Getting three-score high schoolers to treat music with the same respect and passion that he does takes a miracle, and Mr. C is a miracle worker.+ Read More
Mr. Caskin was my concert band instructor for my freshman and sophomore years of high school, and was the most influential person in my opinion on my growth as a musician. Under his instruction, I saw my skills grow exponentially as a musician, and I also saw how much passion and time he put into his work. The band, as a result, was devoted to doing the best job possible and was truly a labor of love. Mr. Caskin helped foster my love for music which I have pursued through college by joining the United States Merchant Marine Academy's Regimental Band, which has been featured in countless televised parades including the recent inaugural parade in Washington, D. C.
Mr. Caskin is a wonderful teacher and truly puts all his heart into his work. I can definitely say without question he was the best band instructor I've ever had!
Mr.Caskin was my music instructor for over four years, in both jazz music and the traditional concert band setting. I credit him with helping me achieve so much; his encouragement, depth of knowledge, and passion and commitment in seeing his students succeed equipped me with the tools to pursue music. Because of his effort, I was able to participate in NYSSMA All-State Jazz, and am now on a music scholarship at my university. Under his instruction I was able to accomplish what I once considered impossible! When I think of the impact I would hope to impart on others one day, I always remember the influence and effect of Mr.Caskin in inspiring and motivating me to achieve my best. He is responsible, attentive, enthusiastic, personable, and most importantly, caring. Hands down the best instructor I have ever had!+ Read More
