FYI, I teach using the pinyin romanization system that is used in mainland China. If you are interested in learning Chinese characters, I can teach you either/both traditional and simplified characters according to your preference.
I also have a special course that I currently teach called Basic Spoken Chinese which focuses only in spoken Chinese, leaving the learning of characters to a later date. I have found this to be, by far, the most effective method to get new students up to speed in Mandarin.

I received my BA degree in Chinese language from UC Berkeley and an MBA degree in Finance from UCLA. Prior to moving to Eugene, Oregon, I lived and worked in China for 20 years, managing several manufacturing and consumer products businesses. During that period, I was recognized for my contributions to the city of Shanghai by being awarded the coveted Shanghai Magnolia Award.
I have previously taught Chinese to adults and teens in a classroom setting as well as tutored students on a one-to-one basis. Currently I am a Mandarin Chinese instructor at Lane Community College here in Eugene.
As a non-native speaker of Mandarin Chinese, I understand very well the important differences between native and non-native language acquisition methods. Based on my experience both as a learner, and many years later as an instructor, I believe that my systematic teaching approach helps non-native students achieve faster and longer-lasting progress in speaking and understanding Mandarin Chinese.
Instructor of Mandarin Chinese in the Continuing Education Program at Lane Community College.
