About a year ago I decided I wanted to start writing poetry again. It was something I’d enjoyed doing years before, but I stopped because I had trouble completing poems or felt that the ones I did complete were not as good as they could be. I then decided that I needed to find someone who would guide me through the process and offer feedback and guidance along the way. I was very fortunate to find Thomas Ramey Watson. He is a pleasure to work with. I have been working with Tom on a weekly basis for almost a year. As an educator and writer of poetry, prose, and scholarly articles, Tom's extensive literary knowledge enhances my ability to add depth and breadth to my own work. We generally begin each session with a poem that I feel I have worked through the best I can. Going line by line, stanza by stanza, Tom helps me discover parts of the poem I may want to explore further and helps me accentuate the most powerful parts of the poem. He tells me what he thinks works and what does not, and offers concise guidance on ways to improve. It has been a joy to watch my poetry evolve in different ways and for them truly to come to life. I would encourage anyone who wants to write the best poetry they can to consider working with Tom. He won't write it for you, but he will give you the tools and guidance needed to do it yourself. I've learned that writing a poem is truly a process, and it can take a considerable amount of time to complete just one poem. However, when your poem is done, you will know that it truly is done and be left with a piece of writing that you can be proud of. I am confident that anyone who has worked with him on various forms of prose writing and studied literature with him can say the same.

I was really pleased with my first session with Thomas. I signed up with Thomas because I wanted someone to help me develop a poem that I am working on. Thomas offered some very valuable feedback and ideas to strengthen my work. To find someone with so much experience as an educator, someone who has written several books, and someone who is passionate about what they do is really quite a gift. I would encourage anyone who is looking to become a better writer to consider Thomas. I am looking forward to my future sessions with him.
