Hello, I'™m Thomas, but most people call me T. I started taking private drum lessons when I was 6 years old from Lucy Flohr. Ms. Lucy was one of the most influential and important people in my development not only as a drummer but in life as well (she's the lady in my profile picture). I met her at 6, and we'™re still friends 30 years later.
After Lucy I started lessons with professors at UNT (which in those days was NTSU). My glam band, Skin Deep, was getting major record deal offers, but it was 1992 when grunge took over. So under guidance of our attorney we didn'™t sign any offers. With my high hopes deflated and a musically defeated heart I had to make a change. So instead of going to UNT to study music which I had been being groomed to do, I chose to go to Austin and attend UT. I graduated from UT in 1997 with a degree in psychology and decided to move to Los Angeles to follow my dream. My band broke up about a month later, but I formed a new one (Milkweed, which morphed into a blue grass band after I left, now called River Rouge) and got an indy record deal. We released "Milkweed....For Breakfast" on my birthday in 2000, and we did lots of regional touring for the next 3 years. Then I moved back to Dallas and joined JackAcid. We released "Life Through a Crazy Straw" on another independent label and toured regionally for a few years. Next was Crossing Ellum, which was fronted by Matthew JC (Founder of Emmy winning Small Guy Music and œMatthew JC and the All Stars). I spent several years playing with a heavy rock band named Social Jab that unfortunately ended before we released our CD titled S3V3N Years... I currently play in Marquis of Vaudeville.
I started teaching classmates in 7th grade and continued through high school. Then I took a hiatus from teaching with just a student here and there during college and my touring days. Now I'm back to teaching more than I'm playing, and I love it! I believe music is a phenomenal gift to us all in every facet, from listening, to learning, to creating, to performing, and it'™s an honor to be able to share my knowledge and experiences to help others learn to appreciate the blessing of music.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons are catered to each individual student. If you want to learn theory, we will start from the beginning. If you just want to learn how to play your favorite songs, then that's what you'll learn. Your personal goals for drumming determine how I teach you.

*** Studio Equipment ***
In-home music room w/ two drum kits (if needed) and seating for parents. Piano, guitars, bass, and recording equipment.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I will provide any manuscript paper necessary for first lesson, then I would expect students to purchase a blank manuscript book along with any books chosen to study.

*** Specialties ***
My lessons are catered to each student's goals.

There are no words to describe the benefit of drum lessons for my son. It goes well beyond drums. T is a fantastic drummer, a fantastic teacher, and now friend. As a fellow musician I learned a lot watching the lessons. Amazing experience and an amazing instructor.

I have been taking lessons with Thomas for a year and a half. He is very patient and explains things very well. I had no drum experience before I met him. I can read music and play better than I ever though I could for the limited amount of time I have been paying. I highly recommend Thomas for adults and kids. I have a busy work schedule and he has been gracious and flexible with my schedule.

Fantastic Teacher for Kids

My 8 year old son has been taking drum lessons from Thomas for about 4 months and he very much enjoys it. What I really like about the lessons is that Thomas custom designs the next lesson based on how the student is performing in the current lesson. His homework assignments are very detailed which is great because I, as well as my son, know what he should be practicing during the week. I can definitely see a big improvement since my son started and I have no doubts he is getting a solid foundation in drums as well as music theory. Thomas is a super nice guy and very patient which makes him fantastic for kids. My wife is a music educator and she is just as impressed with Thomas as I am. We highly recommend him.

Awesome teacher

I have been taking lessons from Thomas for about 4 months. I knew nothing about drums when I started. I have learned so much so fast. T's teaching style is flexible and he is able to adjust the way he explains things so I understand. I have so many light bulb moments in the lesson and when I am practicing at home. He is professional and a lot of fun. My drum lesson is one of the highlights of my week. T is not only teaching me how to play the drums, but how to not be so hard on myself. We laugh a lot and I always leave feeling great about my lesson and that I have accomplished something. I am an adult student and would recommend him for any adult or kid. I can see how young people would relate to him as well. He is laid back, but very professional and knows his stuff. I have recently moved 30 minutes away from him, but will continue to make the drive because he is awesome and worth the drive.

TakeLessons has exceeded my initial expectations, not only the program itself, but the expectations I held for myself.

Love TakeLessons. Love my teacher. Love his teaching method which is relatively laid back on the surface, but the dudes mind is expansive! He hits you curve balls and knows how to relate to his student(s) individually, so that it feels like this is YOUR lesson that he has crafted specifically for YOU. His subtility in regards to a method/ideology is massive! Just when I think , "Oh, ok..." then I'm like "OH! OK!" Constant light bulbs flickering, constant movement and stability in his methods. It's like a friend teaching you professionally to a point, and yet it's clear that he's the teacher, you're the student. After each session I feel like I can do this, and that it's not just a pipe dream and that this teacher enjoys what he does and the sessions we have and wants to see me excel and that in & of itself is not only motivational but inspiring.

Great teacher, really flexible!

Thomas is a great teacher. He is very flexible, and let's me work on the things I want to work on, while still providing me with material to strengthen my fundamentals.
