In my past tutoring and teaching, I have found that students have had the best experience when we work together to discover why each subject is important to the student- whether they know it yet or not. People surprise themselves when they find the right angle from which to view a formerly dreaded topic. Similarly, in music lessons, I am most interested in how the student relates to music. If you want a teacher who molds you into the image of a virtuoso violinist or teaches you to compose music that sounds like the teacher's, another teacher could help you more directly than I.
