With my course, you will learn to navigate the fretboard on an upright, how to swing, create walking bass lines, learn songs by ear or sheet music, and thumb position techniques. I have been a professional live performance and session upright bass player in Nashville for 5 years with extensive teaching experience. I served as Principal Bass for the Belmont University Symphony Orchestra while enrolled at the college, as well as played with various bluegrass, swing jazz, and folk acts. With a Bachelor's Degree in Commercial Music from Belmont University, I can teach you to play any style of music as well as the theory and history behind the music you wish to learn.

Teaching since:
2011

I began playing music at the age of 9 and have been loving it every since. I started with the guitar, and throughout middle school I was introduced to piano, drums and bass guitar. I attended Belmont University where I focused primarily on the electric and upright basses, studying Commercial Music. Most importantly, I love music and I believe everyone has the capabilities of reaching a level where they can play the music that they love and a music that speaks to them. I enjoy all types of music, but I especially love listening to and playing funk, R&B, soul, rock and folk music.

Thomas is amazing! He is always on time and he really gets to know his students and adapts the way he teaches to fit each student’s individual needs. He has a true passion for music that is very apparent because he is always excited about whatever he is teaching me. I highly recommend Thomas as a teacher for private lessons!

Thomas is one of those teachers who effortlessly caters to the specific needs of his student. His technical skills and knowledge of music theory are vast, giving him the ability to teach at the highest level, but what makes Thomas special is his understanding of all genres and all levels.
He's played every genre you can imagine and has something to offer every student. In the 3 years that I've studied with Thomas, I went from an amateur to an intermediate, and am currently working on reaching that next level.
With a teacher like Thomas, you can have that progression. I find a lot of benefit in having the same teacher as well over a period of time.
I would highly recommend Thomas to any student of any level.
