I am Terry L.! Are you are a student in school, an aspiring soloist, or a dedicated chorister? I offer instruction in singing to people of all ages. Each private lesson and voice class will employ useful warm-ups and technical exercises to help increase your range, strengthen your breathing and posture, improve your tone and diction, and heighten your ability to sing expressively. We will broaden your repertoire through the study of songs drawn from a wide range of styles, including art music, folk songs, opera arias, and popular music, as well as music of your choice. We will sharpen your music reading skills and inform your singing by building your knowledge and application of music theory. Human beings are inherently musical! Recent studies indicate that singing simultaneously engages many brain functions, exercising each, while stimulating, informing, and reinforcing others along the way. Singing (ritual utterance) may have contributed to the development of languages in our species long before we spoke in sentences. All human cultures sing! It is the organic, primal, genetically correct primate thing to do! Private voice lessons and voice classes can be scheduled at your convenience. Instruction is available during the summer months. Convenient Location!   *** Studio Equipment *** Lessons in large classroom setting with view of Mt. Tom, electric piano, 1906 Steinway upright piano, Martin DM12 twelve-string guitar, Holton trumpet, stereo *** Travel Equipment *** I can bring written materials and recordings. I would like to have a keyboard, if not an actual piano available, and perhaps a CD player. *** Specialties *** I am a choral/vocal specialist, and I am comfortable teaching beginning guitar and trumpet as well as music history, music theory, and sight reading.
