Learn to sing the right way! Build your voice with an expert teacher with 15+ years of experience

I have a simple, no-nonsense approach to vocal training based on how the voice is designed to work. I help students build the vocal strength and coordination necessary to sing efficiently, using principles and exercises learned through over a decade of intensive vocal study in NYC. Please be advised that I expect students to learn their music on their own (although I'll certainly give you some learning strategies, help with tricky passages, etc.). If you are looking for someone to "teach you the notes," I'm probably not who you're looking for. But, if you want to learn how to sing well and are willing to put in the work, I'd love to help you achieve your goals!

    About Ted D.

My name is Ted D. and I have been teaching private lessons in both guitar and voice for over a decade. I began playing guitar at age eleven and continued into college, where I majored in guitar performance. While in college I began studying voice seriously, adding a vocal performance major to my degree. I moved to New York City for additional vocal training, and sang leading roles in many opera productions in the NY/NJ area. I currently serve as Director of Music and Worship at HOPE Presbyterian Church in North Raleigh, and my performance experience ranges from playing and singing in rock bands and as a solo acoustic act to performing in opera houses and concert halls with symphony orchestras. Whether teaching guitar or voice, I focus on developing proper and efficient technique with my students that enables them to perform in a wide range of styles and performance venues.

Ted has helped me more in just a few short months of lessons than all the other teachers I've had in the past. My confidence has soared. My voice is stronger and my range is growing. I highly recommend Ted to anyone trying to improve their singing voice. I just can't say enough good things about him.

Ted is an absolutely phenomenal instructor and I would highly recommend him to anyone looking to strengthen their vocal abilities. I’ve been singing my whole life and have been the lead singer in a band for 2 years, but had never had any technical training. Over the course of 8 lessons, my range has drastically increased, and my voice sounds clearer, stronger, and more professional. Aside from being a wonderful teacher, Ted is patient, kind, funny, knowledgeable, and made me feel very at ease. I definitely plan on taking more lessons with him in the future!
