Hello! I'm an experienced Writer & Designer.
I've been working as a private tutor for about 5 years. I have experience tutoring in English language, grammar, math, history, science, and literature with a specialty in creative writing, essay writing, and visual arts. My students range from ages 5-18. I even have experience preparing high schoolers for college admission exams and procedures. I believe that there are multiple ways to learn and, therefore, I believe each of my students has unique needs and interests.
To make learning more exciting, I enjoy creating lesson plans that may be in a game form or involve interactive or conversational forms, if it means that the student can understand better.
Above all, I love literature, design, illustration, and writing and incorporate it into my everyday life. It really is something I love doing, which is why I'm happy to teach my students and help them discover what they love about whatever it is they are interested in. Not sure? I'll help you figure it out. Being interested in multiple subjects is okay too!
Besides my love for design and literature, I love teaching. My proudest moments have involved my students accomplishing their personal goals, including becoming more proficient and confident in speaking English and getting into the college of their dreams with an amazing essay! Getting to know a new student is just as important to me as designing and preparing lesson plans.
I want to learn about you so that I can help you learn in whichever way you choose.
Throughout my years in school, I learned how important having the right teacher is. I believe that great presentation is the key to invigorating learning. I help my students find a fun way to reach their toughest goals.
Any questions? Don't be afraid to ask! :)
I worked with various students (ages 10-18) on a variety of subjects over the course of 3 years. I focused mostly on writing and had clear goals such as: helping one student's average increase, helping one student improve in English and grow out of ESL courses, and helping one student prepare for her SAT exam.
I worked with one 4th grade student named Jackie who was struggling with all of his classes. As an ESL student, his and his mother's main goal was to improve his pronunciation, grammar, and reading comprehension.
His English affected all of his other courses as well, so I worked with him on every subject for two hours. First, I would help with his homework. I, then, would use a variety of English practice activities to keep it fun! In addition to this, I assigned him minor homework, which consisted of picking a book of his choice, reading a couple of pages each day after school, and write a short summary of it. Whenever we would meet, I had him summarize what he wrote out loud and we spoke about it.
After the 4 months of hard work, I'm proud to say, Jackie no longer needed to be in the ESL program in his school and even wrote his own (very short) story! I'm glad we found a way to mix his interests with what he was struggling with the most.
