About Taylor G.
Jazz and blues have been an integral part of my life since I was a child. I began playing music when I was five years old, starting with the violin. I have played many instruments, but the saxophone has become my passion. I have been playing saxophone for 18 years, performing professionally both in the Atlanta and Seattle areas.
One of the greatest joys in my musical journey has been to share my musical insights with students. I strive to find each students' creativity and help them cultivate that. I believe that every student has the ability to create beautiful music regardless of experience. I tailor my lessons to each individual student to assist them in reaching their goals- whether that is to perform classical, jazz, blues, Brazilian, etc., to become first chair, to prepare for college and scholarship auditions, or simply to play just for fun.
I studied jazz performance at Agnes Scott College where I received a music scholarship. I also hold a BA in psychology from the University of Washington.
*** Lesson Details ***
One of my main philosophies is that performing music well consists of 2% talent and 97% hard work and practice.
I will guide students in learning smart and efficient practicing techniques that will ensure improvement.
Students can expect that they will learn how to play with great tone and technical ability.
I go at the pace of the student. If a student has specific goals, a college audition for example, then I will push that student harder than a student who is just beginning or is learning to play for fun.
When a student is ready I will teach them music theory and improvisational skills, as well as performance and soloing etiquette.
I believe the best way to learn music is in a comfortable, fun and encouraging environment, and I implement these beliefs in all of my lessons.
*** Studio Equipment ***
I will have metronome and tuners on hand, practice materials, music stands, and piano. Students should bring their instruments, reeds, and any practice materials they have been working on.
*** Travel Equipment ***
I will have metronome and tuners on hand, as well as practice materials. Students should have at least one stand for themselves.
*** Specialties ***
I specialize in jazz and improvisation. Brazilian jazz, blues, funk, straight ahead jazz, beebop, cool jazz, etc. I have also been classically trained. I focus on technique and achieving the desired tone and sound from your instrument.
