Lesson Details

Classical Voice

Levels Taught:
Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced
I’ve been teaching classically based voice lessons for over 20 years, and cover all aspects of singing, including theory, sight singing, ear training, and pedagogy. Most of the music I use in lessons is either classically based, or from theatre, but I will also incorporate songs from another genre, if the student has a preference. Beginners attend 30 minute lessons, which include warmups, instruction, and questions answered, etc. Beginner students complete theory assignments and practice a minimum of 20 minutes per day. Intermediate to advanced students are required to take one hour lessons, at least once per week, and have more difficult theory and practice assignments. Practice requirements are tailored to each student individually, but generally at least 45 minutes of practice per day would be required to progress and stay on my student roster. Advanced lessons are only available for serious students, aged 16 and over, unless a student is exceptionally gifted. Acceptance of voice students on my permanent roster is given only after a trial period, and barring substantial natural talent, the minimum age requirement to take voice lessons is 12.

Experience

Private music teacher and vocal coach

Little Rock Music Studio

I am experienced musician in multiple areas of music, and have been teaching for over 20 years. I grew up taking piano lessons, both in the United States and abroad, and had the privilege of taking piano lessons for nearly five years with the prestigious Royal Schools of Music in the United Kingdom. I have performed in numerous competitions and recitals, winning first place medals and high marks, and have had the opportunity to perform in many different venues, both here and abroad. I trained in classical voice under the direction of Drs. Kimberle Moon and Renita Koehn, and have participated in choral performances as both singer and conductor. I was the staff accompanist (piano) for the university I attended, and filled in as a substitute for the piano professors when they were away. I enjoyed trumpet lessons at university level as well. I’ve played the clarinet since the age of 12, kept 1st chair position in band, and played in my university orchestra as well. I worked as a pianist in Houston, TX, at the Lyric Centre, and as an accompanist for the public school choirs across Houston. I was the accompanist for the music troupe for the Junior League of Houston, and accompanied choirs across the city, before founding and directing several of my own community choirs, in the United States and Ireland, some of which I also accompanied on the piano. I’ve held the position of music director and choir director for churches in Texas, Florida, Mississippi, and Massachusetts, and also have experience in handbells (playing and directing), drama, and theatre, and have been teaching piano, voice, flute, guitar, trumpet, and related instruments in Little Rock for the past five years.

Ms. Tara is incredibly patient, kind and knowledgeable. She has taken my 7 year old son under her wing and he LOVES piano so much because they have so much fun together! She motivates him to practice and challenges him with fun music! If you want your child to take piano lessons, bring them to Ms. Tara!

Tara took my daughter to levels she did not think she could achieve. We were delighted with Tara's instruction and look forward to a long relationship with her as a teacher and a friend!
