    About Tao G.

Hi! My name is Tao. I am a freelance trombonist and performer in NYC. I'm also a teacher, clinician, and artist. I earned my trombone performance degree from the Dana School of Music at the Youngstown State University of Ohio. After college I toured extensively as a professional trombonist for Broadway musicals. I am a versatile musician with experience in classical, jazz, pop, funk, R&B, rock, show tunes, and more. I've traveled all over the world and have been exposed to just about every style out there. A decade of performing on tour has given me a unique perspective on maintenance practice. I will show you how the pros practice, prepare, and perform so you can be prepared for any challenge the music industry throws at you. I've written a few articles helping musicians get ahead in the industry. TakeLessons recently published my article regarding auditioning: Take a look! http://takelessons.com/blog/audition-tips *** Lesson Details *** Trombone Players: Lessons will focus on strengthening fundamentals and theory. Instrumentalists must understand how to speak the 'language' of their instrument through fundamentals before they can develop the highest level of mastery. Advanced students will move on to flexibility and range mastery, along with the inclusion of popular audition repertoire. Guitarists: Fingering, hand placement, scales, chords, and rhythm changes. My lessons focus on learning by ear, understanding harmonic changes, and playing with other musicians. Recording: My lessons feature basic understanding of Mac Software including: Garage Band, Logic Pro X, iMovie, and more Plus, we will study the intricacies of microphones; how they work, where to place them, and how to get the most from your audio software. Theory: From triads to complex harmonic progressions, my lessons carry you through a College Course of Music Theory. *** Studio Equipment *** Music Stand Advanced Method, Etudes, Solo manuscript Instrument Care Materials Students should have: Their own instrument Instrument care materials (slide oil, water, etc..) Method books (I can help you find and price these) Specific Goals I recommend visiting Sam Ash music store for these materials *** Travel Equipment *** When I visit students, I bring my instrument and some of my music repertoire and method books. I can provide a fold-up music stand on request. I generally work with materials the student themselves purchases or is working on for school.
