About Susie B.
I am a graduate student of MASLED (MA in Sign Language Education) program at Gallaudet University. I am proud to say that the quote, "MASLED graduates is the ASL army” was mentioned by our Gallaudet University President, Bobbi last year. It reflects how we take our language, ASL seriously and protect ASL as our unique language. My linguistic courses during my graduate program has reinforced my skills to assess your signing skills to be improved if necessary.
I am the mother of 3 adult sons and two of them are interpreters for the deaf. I also have a deaf sister. I grew up in residential school for the deaf with ASL as my primary language. I had been teaching ASL all my life to my friends, relatives and neighbors. A few of them went on to become interpreters. I taught classes at various sites such as employment places on deaf sensitivity training and ASL classes. I also worked as an advocate for the deaf and worked with the diverse population, including special needs. In past, I had worked as an assistant director of group homes where residents with special needs resided. Those experiences had helped me become who I am now... the people person! :)
I am easy going and put students at ease by discussing our favorite subjects such as pets, hobbies or family which would include 10 minutes extra at no charge as icebreaker! Once the students feel comfortable, they are ready to learn!! 😊
Give me a chance and you won’t regret it.

Susie was great! Looking forward to my next lesson

Susie is an amazing, encouraging, and supportive teacher! If you are going to learn ASL, learn from Susie!

She was very helpful with learning and I was able to understand quickly

I had a wonderful time with Susie. She was very helpful and very patient with me, which I appreciated because I’m still a beginner.

I just had my first lesson with Susie. She is very nice. She asked me what my goals are. We did voice-off signing, but she went slow for me and repeated things as needed. I learned a lot my first lesson. Overall, great instructor.
