About Susan S.
Music, meditation, and mindfulness have become interchangeable parts of my life that come together in the most beautiful way. Learning to develop the mind impacts the body and how we approach every aspect of our lives. If we approach a skill mindfully whether it is playing an instrument or learning something new to us, we connect with the essence of it and make it more likely that we will succeed. Teaching music, meditation, and mindfulness is a joy for me to bring to others of all ages.
I have a background teaching people of many ages how to meditate, play piano, violin, and cello. Whether it is meditation, piano, violin, or cello, the foundation is the most important part of what you will learn with me. The basic skills are the building blocks for long lasting success.
Musically, you will learn proper posture, position, finger placement, scales, technique exercises, note reading, music theory, and songs.
For meditation, you will learn the basics of how to train your attention, how develop a daily practice, be introduced to a variety of meditation practices, and receive insight, guidance, and feedback throughout.
I do also specialize in working with special needs populations both for piano, violin, and cello, as well as, for meditation. Through my previous personal private music studio I taught adaptive piano lessons for students with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, ADHD and other conditions. Each lesson is adapted to the student's individual strengths and ability. I have run an orchestra program of over 200+ students for the last 17 years and have welcomed students of all abilities to learn in a supportive, positive environment whether in person or online. I found in the last year that I truly love online teaching. It connected me with students in a whole new way and that is what led me to want to offer lessons here on this platform.
I also specialize in trauma-sensitive meditation upon request. Trauma-sensitive meditation is designed to take into account triggers regarding PTSD, stress, anxiety, traumatic brain injury, serious illness, and as well as, those who have had traumatic experiences from their jobs. I have been teaching meditation since 2014 and had my own studio in my hometown. The pandemic required me to move what I do online and again, I found that I love online teaching.
I look forward to having you as my student and look forward to connecting with you soon whether it is through music or meditation.
