Tabla is a versatile instrument used for solo performance as well as accompaniment in Indian (Hindustani) classical music, semi-classical music (ex. Movie songs, Devotional songs, Bhajans), and fusion music. I have performed in all the above categories. In my lessons I go over the groundwork needed to succeed, like proper hand placement and finger techniques, and a solid theoretical foundation. I will cover the classical compositions of kaidas, relas, tukras (among many things), semiclassical and qawwali tekhas and variations, and even explore fusion music and enter the realm of cross-cultural improvisation. I am a Tabla player with over 15 years of experience. I am from a family steeped in Classical Music, and was fortunate to receive formal tabla guidance from Pt. Abhijeet Banerjee and Pt. Jyoti Prakash Mistri. I have received awards and accolades in tabla solo and accompaniment in California and abroad. I have played at various venues, including the reputed Sai Kulwanth Hall in India. My main goal through these lessons is to enable students to learn, enjoy, and start playing this wonderful instrument.
