Are you interested in exploring Voice? I believe that each student is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow. It is my desire as a educator to help students meet their fullest potential by providing an environment that is safe, supports risk-taking, and invites a sharing of ideas. Together we will set long-term and short-term goals while enjoying all that music can bring. I hold an Artist Diploma and Masters of Music from The University of Michigan on full scholarship and a Bachelor of Science in Vocal Performance from Roberts Wesleyan College. Having performed both state-side and internationally I have the artistic depth and knowledge to help you achieve your goals.

I currently teach at my private studio in NYC Monday through Thursday.

Stephen was awesome! He created a light fun atmosphere that made me feel really comfortable being a beginner. and also is very truthful about my vocal potential which I really appreciated. I really enjoyed the space it was very peaceful. I would highly recommend Stephen to anyone who's interested in taking vocal lessons for the first time or someone who has tons of experienced. Steven is very attentive he really breaks down every detail about your voiceso you can recognize if there is a problem and correct it I really appreciated that.

Steven has everything possible going for him. He is amazingly talented in voice!
He is honest & sincere. He cannot create a talent in us that is not there. He tested me with chords, etc. , however we do not know if I have the talent to continue. Only my first lesson. He does not believe to continue if we both feel the inert talent is not there. He is ethical & moral.
Steven is patient & calm but has this inert enthusiasm that supports you, so you feel uninhibited & give it your best when you are with him in his quiet studio.. He is totally with you every second. I couldn’t ask for a better teacher. 5 STARS!!!!!

As a former master's student at The Eastman School of Music and a lifelong musician, I've yet to encounter a voice teacher as perceptive, honest, patient, and encouraging as Mr. Tompkins. One of the best pedagogues and technicians I've encountered, his repertoire knowlege and ability to discern what is hindering a singer's progress is quite remarkable. Within an hour of working with him, he was able to fine tune and efficiently improve what was impeding my progress. That 60 minute session was more productive than in an entire semester at conservatory. A world class singer, Mr. Tompkins is as accomplished a voice teacher as he is a performer. Highly recommended.
