A classically trained musician, I received my BA in music (with concentration in classical guitar) from the University of California Santa Cruz. . As a guitar player, I have appeared on numerous recordings covering genres from Americana to Rock, Folk and Lounge. I perform regularly in night clubs with a notable recent appearance on a Sirius Radio Channel. Also an accomplished engineer, I have recorded, mixed and mastered commercially released albums. With a wide and varied skill set, I look to provide a low pressure, encouraging environment of learning to help my students grow in the direction they desire; be it strumming their favorite tunes in the living-room, playing out professionally or recording their creations. While attending UCSC, I became interested in gamelan which I subsequently studied in the US and Bali. As a gamelan orchestra player, I have concertized in the likes of Walt Disney Concert Hall, Orange County Performing Arts Center and have played for dignitaries at Indonesian Consulate functions as well as participated in teaching exhibitions for local schools *** Lesson Details *** I teach from a variety of books depending on the age of the student and the type of music studied (classical, folk, rock, finger-picking). Lessons are designed to put the student upon a path to reach their personal goals. I teach reading of notation, tablature or simply chords or any combination there-of. Simply share with me what you would like to learn and we will design a lesson plan to get you there. I am patient, encouraging and good with kids and adults alike. *** Travel Equipment *** For in-home lessons, I expect the student to have an acoustic or electric guitar. I can assist in obtaining an appropriate book or tabs from the web. *** Specialties *** Along with learning to play the guitar, I teach my students how maintain proper posture and how to care for their instrument. All students who wish to perform will receive coaching on how to present themselves in a confident, comfortable manner. Electric guitar players will receive tips on getting the most from their equipment and I am happy to teach anyone how to effectively record themselves if they wish to go that direction.
