It’s important to me that the students I teach learn the music they love as quickly as possible, while developing the overarching skills that every musician should know. I take time outside of lessons to learn the music my students enjoy. While the taste of students determines song choices, there are some goals common to all of my students.
Building solid technique
Developing a strong sense of “time” (rhythm)
Learning to read music
Creating an understanding of music theory
Exploring stylistic choices
Navigating the instrument confidently and comfortably
Growing the love of music we all have naturally
I earned my Bachelors degree from Cal State, Long Beach in music performance. I have studied privately with Bruce Becker, Peter Erskine, Michael Carney, Randy Drake, Pat Cloud, Brad Dutz, Dave Gerhart, Ron Eschete, and John McClung. Over the past 10 years I have taught hundreds of students and have played in groups that perform, rock, jazz, country, hip-hop, blues, world, Celtic, folk, bluegrass, classical, as well as other musical genres.
I look forward to meeting you and playing music together!
