I have been studying guitar privately for 27 years, have taught for 20 years and I am qualified to teach jazz/pop/rock guitar, improvisation, and theory. I graduated from the music performance program at Queensborough Community College. At Q.C.C. I was fortunate to receive formal training in ear training/ sight singing I-IV, music theory I-IV, convocation performance, performance juries, as well as receiving private lessons focused on jazz improvisation. I was also trained in the fundamentals of piano I-IV. I majored in guitar performance concentrating on jazz improvisation but I also have been studying guitar privately for around 27 years with a strong emphasis on rock and pop. My father is a professional musician and music teacher in the U.K and this afforded many performance and learning opportunities from an early age, by the age of 16 I was already wearing a suit and tie, playing with his 'function' band at weddings and was also fortunate to experience musician theatre pit work. During my time studying at Q.C.C. I enjoyed working as a music tutor for college level music theory students. My tuition brings: Personalized, well prepared, fun and practical lessons. Continuation, each class builds on previously learned material. Progress checks using memos taken during teaching. My students know me for my patience, detail, and positive reinforcement, but also equally for placing importance on helping the student find his/her joy through the instrument. Prior to studying at Q.C.C I lived in South Korea for 7 years where I studied as a meditation monk. This monastic period of my life gifted me with lots of diverse and valuable experiences, ranging from leading Buddhist/meditation classes for kids/teens/college to learning to converse in Korean at a high level. After returning to lay life, I still teach meditation once a week in New Jersey and am raising two teenage step sons aged 14 and 18 with my partner.

Steve is a great instructor. He met me where I was in my journey and is incredibly encouraging, knowledgeable, and kind.
Steve is a great guitar teacher. He's patient and knowledgeable and makes learning guitar very fun. I highly recommend him.
Steve is a tremendous teacher. He comes prepared, engages the entire time, knows when to not "move on", when to go deeper on topics and when to ... "move on"! I have been taking weekly lessons for a year with him and have learned so much. He is extremely thoughtful on what he prepares for you and what to work on. I strongly recommend Steve.
