    About Stephanie Z.

I am a professional violinist and violist, performing regularly in the Baltimore-DC area and elsewhere. I received my Bachelor of Music from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, my Master of Music from the Peabody Institute, and am currently pursuing a Graduate Performance Diploma from Peabody. I have been teaching professionally for more than five years, working with violinists and violists of all ages and experience levels. My goal is to cater to the specific needs of each individual student, and to work together to overcome any individual challenges each student may face. I have studied various pedagogical techniques to develop my own style of teaching. My teaching style is heavily influenced by that of Karen Tuttle, who advocated for a physically free and natural method of playing. I also like to incorporate tenants of music theory, ear training, and history into lessons in order to provide a more complete and balanced musical education. Having studied various styles and eras of string performance, I am happy to explore repertoire from various styles, genres and time periods. I enjoy working with students on the type of music that they love and feel passionate about pursuing, whether that be standard classical repertoire, Irish fiddle tunes, or something else entirely. In addition to violin and viola lessons, I also offer lessons in baroque violin and baroque viola. I specialize in historical performance and am happy to either focus exclusively on early music or even supplement modern training with information regarding historical practices if the student is interested. If you're not sure about a particular style of music that you might be interested in, or for beginners and/or young musicians, that is no problem at all. I look forward to exploring different music with you and finding the music that you love to listen to and play.
