Acting and Shakespeare for Kids and Teens

As a classically trained actor who spent her undergrad years at NYU studying at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute, Stephanie’s particular strength as a teacher lies in her ability to both give her students the tools to meet the demands of classical texts, while also helping them connect their inner truth to the emotional life of the character. Therefore, her work with young actors is based on three principle areas-

• Character- discovering who they are, their specific circumstances, and the students’ own personal connection to the role
• Voice and Text work- giving students the tools to understand and unlock the text, and speak it with confidence and freedom
• Fostering commitment, connection, generosity and specificity, the four basic tenants of the Shakespeare and Company educational curriculum (and all-around great tools for life!)

Coaching Sessions:
• For kids and teens ages 8-18
• High school, college, and professional audition prep, or general scene and monologue study, contemporary and classical
• Conveniently located in east Midtown Manhattan, or your home (within a 7 mile radius of Midtown)

About Stephanie L.

Stephanie holds a BFA in drama from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, and her MFA in classical acting from the Shakespeare Theatre Company’s Academy for Classical Acting at the George Washington University, where she studied with Michael Kahn, Gary Logan (author of The Eloquent Shakespeare) and Ellen O’Brien (head of voice and text at the Shakespeare Theatre Company). Stephanie has also studied Linklater voice technique with Kristin Linklater in Orkney, Scotland. A member of Actors’ Equity Association, she has performed regionally with the New York State Theatre Institute, the Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey, Constellation Theatre Company, Chesapeake Shakespeare Company, and the Folger Shakespeare Theatre. She is currently a resident acting company member with the New York City Shakespeare companies Hamlet Isn’t Dead and New Place Players, and has also worked with New York Shakespeare Exchange and Theatre 167.

Stephanie served as the voice and speech teacher at Everyman Theatre in Baltimore from 2013 to 2015, working with students in their high school summer intensive program and teaching classes throughout the school year. She also worked as an actor and teaching artist with Maryland Shakespeare Company on their “Shakespeare Alive” tour of middle and high schools throughout Maryland, which utilized an educational philosophy and pedagogy based on the work of Shakespeare and Company on Lenox, MA. Stephanie has also taught Shakespeare and children’s drama classes for Imagination Stage, Wingspan Arts, and Hamlet Isn’t Dead.
