    About Stephanie T.

Hello, my name is Stephanie and I have been playing the flute for over 20 years. I currently work at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music as the Assistant to the Dean. Although I don't play professionally, I still love to play in my spare time and teach musicians of all ages. Lessons: Our first lesson together will be the most important. This is a wonderful opportunity for me to learn about you, and identify your strengths and weaknesses. Based on your age and experience, we will determine the length of your lesson. Its' my job as a teacher to help foster your creativity, enthusiasm and allow you to express this (and so much more) through music! Policy: Please notify me 24 hours in advance if you need to cancel a lesson. Equipment: My home studio is equipped with 2 music stands, metronomes, tuners, articles, and books. I also own method/technique books, chamber music, and solo literature. Specialty: I am passionate about performing in chamber groups, specifically flute quartets, duos, and flute and guitar literature. Advanced: For my graduate degree, I presented a lecture titled "The Evolution of Extended Flute Techniques". I quickly become intrigued with contemporary music and spent months learning extended techniques for the flute. I also have arranged music for various instrumental and vocal ensembles. Performing Experiences: Guest Performer at NFA Convention, Summer 2015 Guest Performer for Jennifer Higdon, March 2014 (Women in Music Conference at Eastman School of Music) Ithaca Flute Quartet, 2013-2014 Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival, April 2013 Guest Flutists for Carmina Burana Ithaca College Theatre Department, November 2012 (Flute/Piccolo in Legally Blonde) Ithaca College Wind Ensemble, 2012-2013 Ithaca College Symphony Orchestra, 2012-2013 Ithaca College Contemporary Chamber Ensemble, 2011-2012 Ohio University Wind Ensemble, 2006-2012 Ohio University Symphony Orchestra, 2007-2008, 2009-2010 Ohio University Flute Choir, 2006-2012 National Collegiate Wind Ensemble, May 2010 (Piccoloist under the direction of Robert H. Reynolds, Carnegie Hall) Alarm Will Sound (Contemporary Chamber Ensemble), June 2008 (Guest Flutist)

I taught over one hundred music education undergraduates who were required to take a beginning flute class as part of their education degree. I designed the course to provide pre-service teachers with strategies to teach flute techniques at the elementary and secondary levels, providing students with the necessary information to play the flute at an intermediate level, as well as to teach concepts learned in class. I taught private flute lessons to flute minors and non-majors. For 2 years, I directed the Ithaca College Flute Ensemble, a group of 15-20 flute majors and non-majors. I also assisted the Ithaca College Flute Studio with weekly repertoire classes and a flute techniques course.
