Hi! I am a private music instructor offering lessons both in-studio and online. I hold a Bachelor of Music degree from Berklee College of Music (Summa cum Laude) and I have over 35 years' full-time experience as an instructor. I also have nearly four decades of experience as a professional jazz, rock, and theater musician. My experience has taken me from nightclubs to concert stages, as well as television, radio, and recording studios. Finally, I am a published author with several titles dedicated to helping musicians becoming the best they can be.

**** MY TEACHING STYLE ****

My teaching style is often referred to as laid-back, gentle, informative, and very supportive. My focus is on enrichment, encouragement, and results. I don't work with “one-size-fits-all” methods. Each lesson is customized to make the most of each student's own unique abilities, limitations, preferences, and interests. Whether students prefer, or do better, with traditional materials, playing/singing along with their favorite recordings, improvisation, or anything in between, I am more than happy to accommodate and bring out each student’s best!

I teach real music -- students begin playing music they love almost from day-one. For example, many of my piano and guitar students pride themselves on learning to play every song on Beatles One ... playing right along with the CD! Reading, playing by ear, improvisation (jamming), singing while you play ... there are so many ways to play and avenues to explore in music.

**** MY STUDIO ****

My studio is spacious (very spacious – no cubicles here!), well-appointed, and very quiet. Unlike music stores and multi-lesson facilities, there are no other lessons on the premises, no drummer going crazy on the other side of the wall. This means students can concentrate better and learn faster. There is also plenty of room for parents and siblings who may wish to sit in on lessons.

**** STYLES / GENRES ****

I believe that students make the most progress learning music they love and I am very happy to teach every student the style of music he or she loves most.

My most requested genres are: pop, rock, country, blues, film/television, classic rock, jazz, and classical. Some students arrive knowing exactly what they want, but most are happy to explore various styles that interest them in search of the perfect fit. It is not at all uncommon for a student to spend part of their lesson polishing up a Beethoven piece or jazz standard, then finish up playing the chords to “Hotel California” along with the CD. Another student might start off their lesson learning a Taylor Swift hit, then move over to doing some blues improvisation. Variety is a wonderful thing and it is highly encouraged.

**** MY STUDENTS ****

Over the years, I have taught students from four years old to eighty-somethings. I’ve taught absolute beginners (most of my students start from square-one), hobbyists, seasoned professionals, even a Grammy nominee and a Grammy winner! Many of my young students have gone on to perform in school bands / jazz bands and/or professionally. In all cases, they acquire a skill that will last for a lifetime and provide joy, enrichment, and satisfaction.

Do you have a song or two in your heart. Contact me today and I will help you reach your musical goals no matter what they may be!

Owner / Instructor
Jan 1982 - Present
The Stan Munslow Studio

Since 1982, I have been the owner and guitar/piano/voice instructor of my own private music studio, typically teaching approximately 60 or more students per week while maintaining a beautiful, well-appointed studio that is absolutely quiet and well-suited to learning. My students have ranged from 4 to 80-something years old, absolute beginners to seasoned pros (even two Grammy nominees/winners!) The studio space is also quite spacious, with plenty of room to accommodate parents and/or siblings who may wish to sit in.

Although my work for the Learning Connection does not encompass every year spanning from 1986 to 2008, I taught for the Learning Connection for most of these years teaching adult beginning guitar and piano classes -- in six-week installments -- to hundreds and hundreds of students in small and medium size groups. I am proud of my success with these students in that I was able to get them playing real music in a very short time!

I have always wanted to learn how to play the piano and now I am thoroughly enjoying taking lessons from Stan. He's a very patient instructor who fills me with confidence. I look forward to my lesson every week and the time spent there just flies by so fast. Stan is very interesting and gives me a lot of information to help me understand music historically and in practice. He tailors his lesson to me. A great teacher! Thanks Stan!

Stan Has been my instructor for eight months. Bottom Line...terrific! He is a master of his craft and a really-really gifted teacher. I tried a number of teachers over the years and got discouraged. There are many alleged "Music Teachers " that cant read music! Stan is a Suma Cum Laude (that's #1 in the class) Honors graduate of Berkley School of Music in Boston! The real deal!!

I walk away from every lesson as excited as the first. I highly recommend Stan to my family and friends!

Stan is an awesome teacher. He breaks down the subject material very intuitively but also finds a way to explain intricate concepts in a clear manner. I've learned so much and I would recommend him to anyone!

Stan has his lessons down perfectly, making it enjoyable. His knowledge is obvious as he teaches, and he has a great rapport with the kids, making it fun. My 8 year old looks forward to his lesson every week, and it is amazing how much he has learned. I would recommend Stan to anyone looking for a music instructor without hesitation.

My daughters ages 8 and 9 began lessons with Stan a couple months ago and they both love it!

My 8-year old is learning the guitar and my 9-year old is learning the piano/keyboard.

My youngest is a bit of a jokester who thinks she can do everything and my oldest is more cautious when trying new things. Stan is very good at reading their personalities and tailoring the lessons and how encourages them to suit their personalities.

We are quite surprised at how well both of the girls are learning to play songs in such a short period of time!

I started taking lesson from Stan when I was 12 and I absolutely love his teaching style! It's a very personalized lesson that's centered around what you want to learn and your pace and style of learning it. I've been taking guitar and piano lessons from him for three years now, and he's very knowledgeable and experienced in both subjects and offers great advice. His recitals are very fun, a great performing experience, and an opportunity to meet his other students that share the same interests as you. He really seems to genuinely care about your progress.

As an educator with over 40 years of experience, I can easily tell when someone is a wonderful teacher. And Stan is certainly an outstanding instructor! He clearly and patiently explains, demonstrates, and models whatever skill is being taught. His students love him for his kind and caring personality, as well as for the wealth of musical knowledge he passes on. I learned so much from him, and looked forward to every lesson!

Stan always encourages his students to find their own style. He has a vast portfolio of “tools in his toolbox” that he can use. Approach him with a new idea and he will immediately tap into his wealth of education, experience and provide you with his insight. The possibilities of music are endless, but Stan’s knowledge of music theory, among many other things, is a tremendous benefit for a student trying to unlock their potential.

Stan is a remarkable instructor. Our daughter is 14, and totally engaged. She's playing Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody. How cool is that? Stan's music instruction is not limited to reading and playing; he has an amazing wealth of knowledge and experience that makes it so interesting for the students (and for the parent that sits in on the lesson!). I can't recommend Stan highly enough.

Stan has been a wonderful teacher for our young boy who started at 4 and continues to this day. Stan uses a wide range of music styles and arranges them for children. This allows my son not to get bogged down, bored, or resistant to playing. We have to drive an hour for these lessons, but our son refuses to change teachers. There is the option of expanding into guitar, voice, composition, etc.

Stan Munslow is a fantastic instructor. He takes the time to get to know his students so he can meet their individual needs. His lessons are not cookie cutter lessons where each student plays the same pieces. He finds out what you enjoy and gears the lessons accordingly. I would highly recommend him as an instructor!
