    About Spenser H.

I've been performing and writing music for over a decade, and teaching for the better part of that. Music has brought a great amount of joy to my life, and it's something that I love to share. Receiving private lessons growing up was absolutely invaluable to me as a young musician, and I think that you'll agree that having the right instructor makes all the difference. I've lived and breathed music for a long time. I've performed with many bands, playing not only guitar, but bass and drums as well. I've toured, released albums, composed for films, recorded bands, studied music at a collegiate level, and tackled a wide variety of genres in the process. My approach to music is a simple one: I like to find out what my students dream of doing with their instrument, and create a lesson plan to teach them the skills they need to make that dream a reality. Given the chance, I'd love to help you along that path. *** Lesson Details *** My lessons start by figuring out a student's end goal. Your ultimate guitar-related dream, if you will. I'll then tailor a lesson plan to help you achieve that. I'm a laid-back guy, I think that music is all about having fun while being creative, so I do my best to foster that kind of environment while teaching. After three months, you should have a basic idea of how the guitar works. You'll know how to play a song or two, and be able to read music at a basic level. You'll know how to properly care for your instrument, and a little bit about how songs are put together. After six months, you'll have a good few songs under your belt. You'll be able to write chord progressions on your own, and understand how melodies work. You'll understand how songs are put together, and what some of your favorite artists were thinking when they wrote their songs. *** Travel Equipment *** I can provide books, staff paper, and a music stand. If I must, I can also provide an instrument, but it would be much preferable for a student to provide their own. *** Specialties *** I have experience teaching with most types of guitar playing, though I have spent the majority of my teaching career teaching rock, metal, and classical.
