Flutist and pianist, Dr. Spencer Hartman is currently residing in Lubbock, Texas where he serves as Lecturer of Music at Eastern New Mexico University, Adjunct Professor at Amarillo College, and is a flutist is the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra. Dr. Hartman earned the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Flute Performance where he was a Graduate Teaching Assistant in the flute studio of Dr. Lisa Garner Santa. At Tech, Spencer taught small studio of college flute majors and performed regularly with the Texas Tech Graduate Woodwind Quintet. Prior to relocating to Texas, Spencer earned a Master of Music degree in Flute Performance and Pedagogy from Memorial University of Newfoundland under the tutelage of Dr. Michelle Cheramy and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Music Performance from Indiana University of Pennsylvania where he studied with Dr. Therese Wacker. While at Memorial, Spencer was the winner of the 2015 Annual Concerto Competition and performed Joel Puckett’s’ Shadow of Sirius for Flute and Wind Ensemble. Hartman received influential mentor ship and flute instruction from Gretchen Pusch. Spencer attended the Round Top Summer Festival Institute in the Summer of 2018 working with Carol Wincenc, Ransom Wilson along with renown conductors. Additionally, Spencer has received additional instruction in the form of lessons and masterclasses from many prominent North American flutists such as Marya Martin, Alexa Still, Leone Buyse, and Marianne Gedigian.
