    About Soren H.

After a decade of studying and performing music around the country, I have recently returned to my roots in the Puget Sound region! I hold an MM from Bowling Green State University and a BM from the University of Oregon, both degrees in music performance but focusing specifically on the saxophone. Every saxophonist has a unique sound, unique aspirations, and a unique musical identity. I believe that with focused regular practice, a solid grasp of technique/sound concept, and clear personal goals, students can take ownership of this identity and reach their full potential in any style or genre. I happily teach all ages and ability levels; my students have ranged from beginning fourth grader, to high school senior preparing for music in college. My background is primarily in classical and contemporary music. I regularly take on a wide variety of performance projects, from traditional saxophone fare to the avant-garde. Recent performances include: -radio broadcasts on KING FM, WGTE FM (Toledo, OH), and the nationally distributed program Performance Today; -guest recitals at Ball State University and Fredonia State University of New York; -new music festivals across the Midwest; -a tour of public schools and remote community centers throughout western Washington; and -Diving Santa at the Seattle Aquarium. I am also passionate about chamber ensembles. Currently, I perform with a flute/saxophone/French horn trio, which, in less than a year together, has commissioned 6 new works for this new combination of instruments. One of the greatest joys in music is the special bond we make with others -- musicians, composers, and audiences -- through the creation of new music. I live for this joy, and strive to pass it on to each of my students. Please message me before purchasing lessons! TakeLessons does not allow messages between you purchasing and me accepting new lessons. I am more than happy to answer any questions, and look forward to meeting you and helping you/your child become a better musician!
