Hello! My name is a Sophia P. and I am a professional singer, songwriter and teacher, native to Los Angeles, California. I want to enable my students to sing music they love, feel comfortable in their own skin, and learn to express themselves on stage! Whether singing is just a hobby, or you are looking to begin your professional career, I'm the teacher for you! I strive to maintain the perfect balance of a fun, creative, stress free atmosphere, while simultaneously giving you the tools you need to succeed in your vocal endeavors. Lesson Overview: In the first half of the lesson, we will focus on breathing, vocal technique, and warming up with specific, handpicked vocal exercises. The second half of the lesson will focus on practicing vocal repertoire. We will choose a song that fits your authentic voice and learn it from top to bottom! Lesson Topics: Breathing technique, vocal technique, artistry, ear training, diction, volume control, microphone technique, vocal range, warming up the voice, studio etiquette, performance skills, stage presence, repertoire, audition and performance preparation ** Professional Bio ** Sophia developed her passion for music at a very early age, growing up in a home environment filled with singers and musicians. Her father is singer Joe P. best known for his vocals on “Never Gonna Let You Go,” the 80’s hit from acclaimed Brazilian musician, Sergio Mendes. Mendes is also Sophia’s godfather. Sophia graduated from Berklee College of Music in Boston with a Bachelor of Music degree in vocal performance. While at Berklee, she also received the prestigious Cleo Laine Scholarship Award. Sophia performs under the stage name Sugar Joans. She was a member of Team Pharrell and a top 12 finalist on Season 7 of NBC’s “The Voice.” A member of SAG-AFTRA, Sophia’s professional vocal credits include on and off-camera performances on several episodes of the television series, “90210.” She also sang on the soundtrack for the movies “Hairspray", “Sing”, and her vocals were also featured on the musical film "A Cinderella Story: If The Shoe Fits". Sophia was the lead vocal on a TV spot for the California State Lottery and recently sang on and off screen for a National Honda commercial.
