I've been studying violin and viola for 15 years, in the New England Conservatory Preparatory Program and with the Boston Youth Symphony. I've studied with and observed some of the best viola teachers in the country. I'm currently a junior at Harvard University studying English, and highly active in the undergraduate classical music scene, with previous enrollment at the New England Conservatory undergraduate level. In addition to music, I love cooking and gardening!
I'm fascinated by the differences between viola and violin playing, and the ergonomics of good tone production. I've been focusing on good posture and set up over the past few years and I'm excited to share with you what I've learned. One of the most satisfying ways I spend my time is using my English major skills to examine music on a deeper and more analytical level, always asking myself to push further into compositional intent and musical interpretation. I'd love to embark with you on a journey through the wonder and fulfillment that comes with exploring music on a deeper level!
Sofia is a fantastic viola teacher, and a great violist! She is wonderful to learn from, and she really cares.
Sofia is fantastic! She knows all the correct techniques and exercises and she helped me a lot, in just the first lesson with her. She is also very interested in helping me make real progress! I'm thrilled to be her student!
