Sirena Nuñez is a graduating flute student at San Antonio College; she will be transferring to UTSA in the fall of 2019 to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Performance. She started learning her instrument in 6th grade, entering the top symphonic bands her 7th and 8th grade year. Sirena auditioned and was accepted as a founding member of the San Antonio Youth Wind Ensemble for high school musicians during her 8th grade year. SAYWE gave Sirena opportunities to perform side by side with other professional Bands, like the Heart of Texas Band and 323rd Army Band. Guest conductors that SAYWE performed with include, Jerry Junkins, Frank Ticheli, and Larry Livingston. Sirena has also performed with the SAYWE organization at Carnegie Hall during Tchaikovsky’s debut anniversary the summer of 2017. Sirena has also been a part of many other organizations, like the Texas State women's choir, The Bobcat Marching Band, TMEA region ensembles, San Antonio Flute Choir Festival, Concert choir and Chamber Ensemble at San Antonio College. Sirena has also begun teaching beginning flute and introductions to musical notation privately and at Wilder Intermediate school. Sirena is a passionate performer who loves the thrill of creating music on stage, with an ambition to share the fine arts and a mindset dedicated to music performance. Begun in 1920 as the Texas Band Teachers Association, the Texas Music Educators Association is an organization of over 10,000 school music educators dedicated to promoting excellence in music education. TMEA is comprised of five divisions: Band, Orchestra, Vocal, Elementary and College. On behalf of its members and Texas schoolchildren, TMEA carefully monitors the actions of all state decision-making bodies on issues affecting fine arts instruction in Texas. In addition to many member benefits, TMEA offers professional development opportunities for its members with Region workshops and especially with its annual Clinic/Convention.
