    About Simon M.

I'm a vibraphonist, producer, composer, and bandleader. I'm a graduate of the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz (Master of Music) and Berklee College of Music/Berklee Global Jazz Institute (Bachelor of Music). As a teacher, I specialize in helping musicians of all experience levels and instruments find their unique sound through improvisation, composition, theory and technique. I have a wide range of musical interests (jazz, classical, electronic music, hip hop, funk and more) and I look forward to learning more about yours. Born in Paris, France and having studied classical percussion and drumset extensively throughout my formative years, I picked up my first mallets while at a high school summer program at Berklee College of Music. Later, I went on to study at Berklee, earning a Bachelor of Music degree. During that time, I performed, recorded and studied with many of acclaimed faculty (including Terri Lyne Carrington, Danilo Perez, Hal Crook, Joe Lovano, and John Pattituci). After studying at Berklee, I went on to earn a Master of Music degree at the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz in Los Angeles, where I shared the stage with such jazz luminaries as Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, John Patitucci, Danilo Perez, Esperanza Spalding, Miguel Zenon, Jimmy Heath, and Jeff Tain Watts and have been featured on recording with Kendrick Scott, Terrace Martin, Dayna Stephens, Bob Sheppard. I'm also an active touring musician, having performed worldwide at many of the most-respected jazz clubs and festivals, including Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola at Jazz at Lincoln Center in NYC, Sunside in Paris, The International Jazz Day Festival in Cuba and Russia, Blue Whale in Los Angeles, Portugal, Italy, Sweden, Panama. More recently, I've been a part of the band MND FLO, who will be releasing our debut album summer 2018. Besides my work as a performer, I'm an active educator, teaching privately as well as in master-class and lecture settings for students of all ages. I've also spent countless hours in community outreach, from Cuba to Indonesia to Panama.
