Phonics with Shelly E.

Greetings! I am currently a second grade teacher at Legacy Traditional Schools. I have previously taught for the Phoenix Elementary School, Union Elementary, and Buckeye Liberty Elementary School Districts. I have experience teaching music k-8 including instrumental music, and elementary classes in first and second grade. I am married and have three kids of my own, one daughter and two boys. My kids keep me busy with dancing and dirt biking. In my free time, I enjoy knitting, golfing, and reading. I grew up in Michigan. The most influential person in my life spent most of my first grade year teaching me how to read and spell. This teacher was a constant in my life. She was my youth leader at church and I became a mentor to some of her students while in high school. She always reminded me that "readers are leaders." Later in life, while I was going to college, she told me to remember, "If your students can't read. They will not succeed." These bits of information have stuck with me for years! I love to read and I feel so much empathy for those that struggle with reading. I have made it my goal to serve as many students as possible in reading by getting as much training and experience as possible to teach children of all ages and backgrounds to successfully read. With ten years of teaching experience, multiple attended conferences and professional developments, as well as a certificate in Orton Gillingham from the Dyslexia Training Institute, I believe I can serve your child and give them the gift of be able to read.
