Develop a classical voice: Learn from a professional soloist with a Master’s in vocal performance

Every lesson is for YOU. The time we spend together is time for you to explore your voice, your goals, and desires within music. I specialize in beginner/intermediate singers looking to expand their voice, repertoire, and love of singing. No lesson will be the same, and every lesson will be a shared experience in which we learn how your voice works, and how it feels. Lessons include, but are not limited too, repertoire exploration, music theory, range expansion, vocal pedagogy/vocal anatomy, performance preparation, character coaching .....and much more. CANCELATION POLICY: Students must communicate any cancellations or adjustments 24 hours in advance to avoid charges. Any cancellations made to lessons within the 24 hour window will be charged if unable to reschedule within the same week.

About Shelley M.

I'm a professional singer/teacher residing in New York City with degrees from Indiana State University School of Music, and New York University with a specialization in Classical Art Song, Musical Theatre Repertoire, and Vocal Pedagogy. Every lesson is about YOU. So each week we will take a look at your goals for the lesson, whether you are preparing for college auditions, school talents shows, a desire to work with music theory, or piano skills, this is your opportunity to explore. Everything is possible. As a professional singer myself, I am constantly auditioning on broadway, off-broadway, and for smaller local and regional theater opportunities. I believe that as a teacher I have to continue to be in the field and learning as the industry continues to change. I have to be aware of the opportunities in this business. I have been hired by professional opera and musical theatre companies, in additional to large choral works as a soloist, and have a private studio in Washington Heights. Prior to NYC I taught middle school choir for 200+ students, of which I received teacher of the year in 2012. I also still hold a valid teaching license in the state of Indiana. ONLINE LESSONS: Due to the current nature of our society and the influence of CoVid-19 my studio is only currently teaching lessons online until further notice. STUDIO CANCELLATION POLICY: Because of the nature of singing, and how important consistency is, having lessons regularly is incredibly important. Additionally, due to the nature of lesson times being reserved in my schedule, it is always courtesy to keep scheduled lessons as much as possible. - Planned absences (such as vacations, religious events, holidays, school functions, etc) are eligible for rescheduling or cancellation if given at least two weeks notice in writing (text or email communication) - Unforeseen events (emergencies, sudden illness, etc) totally happen. In the case of such an event, please contact me as soon as possible, preferably within 24 hours so I can possibly give that time to another student. Lessons canceled with less than 24 hours will not be rescheduled and will be marked as "missed" with a charge.

I love working with Shelley! I started lessons with Shelley with no real singing experience, and I have learned and improved a lot since working with her. Shelley has made me feel comfortable from the beginning –– in singing and even in using my speaking voice more confidently. I really appreciate her mind-body-voice approach, and that she encourages me to use our lessons as a way to check in with myself. She is very flexible and fun with her approach, and always meets me where I'm at. I look forward to our lessons and definitely recommend Shelley!

Shelley is such an amazing vocal coach! She has helped me improve so much with not only auditions but my performance in school musicals as a whole. Shelley coaches with techniques and warmups that allow me to strengthen within theatre. I am so thankful she is my vocal coach! I highly recommend her!
