I achieved National Board Teacher Certification while I was a teacher, the highest credential in the teaching profession. Following that, I was the owner of Hi-Tech Learning, a company that taught students to create Video Games and amazing things with Minecraft. Currently, I work with schools and other organizations to implement technology and STEAM based after-school programs. I have a passion for helping students go beyond typical subjects taught in school to gain the necessary skills to find success in the 21st century.
I introduce students to computer programming through video game design. This is a fun way for students to learn to code. For younger students, I use a program called Kodu. For older students, we use Gamesalad, a program used by both beginners and real game designers. Minecraft is also an option to learn coding. It's up to you!

I have spent 14 years teaching students to create! As an elementary teacher for 11 years, I got students excited about math by engaging them in projects that required them to use mathematics to solve real world problems. I was the elementary robotics coordinator in my school district for 10 years where helped students build and program robots. After teaching, I started a company called Hi-Tech Learning that taught students to create Video Games and amazing things with Minecraft.
I am available to introduce your child to coding, animation, video game design, 3D Design and more! I use fun programs like Minecraft to introduce concepts in an engaging way. Your child will be having so much fun, they won't realize they are learning key skills needed for success in today's world.
If you would like help getting your child excited about creating and preparing for success in the 21st century, I have extensive experience. If you have a project in mind for your child that involves technology, contact TakeLessons today!

During my time as a Quaker Valley Teacher, I taught all core subject areas. I taught advanced math classes in both 4th and 5th grade during which I developed real-world performance tasks to both challenge and engage students. I also developed numerous after-school and summer camps during my time with the district. This included a FIRST Lego League Robotics program for 4th and 5th graders that I ran successfully for 10 years. I also created a variety of other robotics programs for all ages that I ran as after-school programs and summer camps.+ Read More
This is the highest credential in the teaching profession.
Shawn is a very dedicated and inspirational educator. My son (and his partners in the class) thoroughly enjoyed learning with Shawn. He is great at guiding the students. Yet, he also enough "hands off" to allow the children to work by themselves to solve the problem. He was very cordial to all the parents and protective of the children as they arrived and left. Personally, I wish my son was still in the age range for Shawn's classes, because he would definitely love to attend more classes/camps. In conclusion, I highly recommend Shawn, and his skills and an educator.+ Read More
