VOICE FOR SINGERS & ACTORS: You'll learn sequential detailed exercises that free and strengthen your voice. You'll understand how your instrument works, what parts of your voice are blocked and what to do about that. You'll be able to combine your emotional life on your voice without tension and blockages. You'll learn how to approach and perform scripts, text and songs in preparation for audition and performance. And, you'll experience the JOY of using your voice.

You will learn how to utilize your breath, proper placement and build vocal power. You'll master specific exercises that unlock tension blocks in each part of your musculature as you developing expressiveness, resonance and enjoy the individuality of your free voice. If you practice you'll feel result after two weeks!

I teach all styles and specialize in auditions. After working with me I want my students to "own" their individual vocal methods and styles, expressing the essence of every song and script.

I have been teaching voice and acting for singers, actors and non-professionals for over 25 years. In America at; NYU, Stella Adler Studio, Williams College, Bowdoin College and my own company, Voice Theatre, and in the UK at; The Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, Middlesex University and in London's West End at the Drill Hall Studio.

About Shauna K.

Shauna is a professional director, acting and voice teacher and artistic director of Voice Theatre. She has taught voice and acting in many universities in the UK and US. She has directed over forty plays in eight countries from Aberbeen, Scotland to San Antonio, Texas to London, England to Paris, France.

For the past three years I have been a mentor to immigrant performing artists at for the New York Foundation for the Arts. I have led hundreds of workshops and individual classes where singers and actors have shed non-productive habits and built healthy expressive acting instruments and voices. I have taught actors from the Royal Shakespeare Company to jazz artists to Broadway singers and actors.

I am a graduate of Carnegie-Mellon and College at Purchase where I earned a BFA in acting. My post grad work was at The Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in Bristol, UK. I am published by Drama Books, "Voice and Speech Warm-up", University of Nebraska, "Pushing Through", Arts Navigator-London, "Taking Legacy to Germany" and featured in Cune Press, "Stage Warriors". This Spring I have been commissioned by Texas Tech University to write a new play.

My students experience improvements and change most weeks. You'll become the master of specific exercises that will unlock tension blocks in each part of your body and voice. You'll develop strength, expressiveness and confidence and as a result you'll have a technique that will solve challenges in rehearsal and performance.
You will learn how to solve rehearsal problems and challenges on your own.

I teach students of all ages to "own" their own instruments as constantly developing artists whether it is acting or speaking or singing. I work out of my studio in the East Village in NYC, or in my home in Upsate, NY and online. I teach many different styles.

Here are a few of the schools I have taught voice and acting: The Stella Adler Studio of Acting, New York University Tisch School of the Arts, T. Schreiber Studio and the New Actor's Workshop. In England at: The Mountview Theatre Conservatory, Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, Queen Margaret College and Middlesex University – all members of the Professional Theatre Training Programme of Great Britain. I have been a guest artist at Bowdoin College, Williams College and Harden-Simmons College.

I look forward to meeting you and helping you become a better artist!

Shauna is great, and I am grateful to have found her. My goal is to find my authentic voice, and her methods and expertise are perfectly suited to this purpose. She helps me understand how sound is made and moves through my body, where it is blocked and how to use it to truly express myself. I have greater awareness of my body, and of how sound connects me to my deepest self. I love my lessons and leave refreshed and energized!

Literally, I couldn’t ask for a better Broadway singing and acting coach! Honestly, she's been so patient with me since I am pretty new to this industry. She has been nothing but supportive and I really can’t thank her enough for that. With Shauna by my side, I feel like I'm getting closer to my dream! Her classes are always fun as she has a great sense of humor plus all the knowledge and on top of that, experience in the industry insight. In the tough times of coronavirus, Shauna suggested Facetime lessons that are actually very convenient and beneficial. Think about it, staying home, not spending time on commute and keeping yourself and others healthy. Thank you, Shauna. Really grateful for meeting you! Best regards, Karina

Shauna is a Goddess of the Voice ! She offers years of voice experience in both singing and drama. She begins with simple yet very effective techniques to get the best out of your voice, and as you are ready she will offer more specific techniques depending on what you need as an individual. Shauna has the ability to see where you are blocked and to see your potential. This is so much more than a singing lesson.

It's an amazing feeling when you find someone who is a master at the craft and can teach it too!

Shauna's previous extensive theatre training and instruction is UNDENIABLE. Because of this, she brings much more to the table than the average acting coach.

She made me realize there's SO much more than just breaking down a scene and creating a character. She made me think about where the character is going physically as well as emotionally, and why. I continue to grow and improve with each lesson with her. I'm so lucky to have found Shauna, and strongly recommend her to all actors.

Shauna is an absolutely incredible voice/acting teacher. She took the time to meet me where I was and encouraged me to be confident in the skills I already possessed. As a dancer, it is often scary to use your voice because it isn’t something we often exercise. Shauna helped me gain incredible knowledge in a new instrument. I was preparing for an important audition and with the tools she gave me I was able to have incredible success on a nearly impossible time constraint! I highly recommend Shauna for all levels :)

I came to Dhauna as an experienced actor looking to work on my vocals. We very quickly csme to the conclusion i was reverse breathing, a habit I may have picked due to stress. It was great having her input and she was very knowledgeable about the industry in New York (I only just moved here). Which felt like a nice wee extra:) we also worked on a monologue and again her thoughts incredibly helpful.

It was great workung with her and I hope to work with her again in the future!

Shauna really goes above and beyond with her teaching method - she gets right to essence of what's holding you back and breaks it down with compassion and humor. She has a deep understanding of her craft in a way that connects it beyond the voice to every aspect of life. I went further in two lessons than I thought possible!

Shauna gives me her full attention, focus and knowledge when working with me. She is very passionate about her work and has been immensly helpful to me. She asks me to come prepared and ready to work, so if you are looking for a teacher who will let you slack...that is not Shauna! Her instruction has given me greater skills and confidence. And she is immensly enjoyable to work with. I HIGHLY reccomend her.

Shauna can really help you learn to get in touch with your breathing. I discovered where the sound comes from deep within, and exercises to help me learn how to free the sound out. Getting out of your own way can be half the battle! Very relaxing and fun class.

If I had more stars I would still indicate the maximum. I have been working with Shauna for a while. I am a (very) amateur singer, but really wish to work on my voice -- I love singing and also consider doing so in public my last phobia. Shauna is so knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and empathetic. I feel far from being "pushed," I am instead treated with remarkable understanding of where I'm at vocally and what I need in terms of both technique and support. I feel very lucky to work with her; she's a joy!

I can't recommend Shauna highly enough. She's very knowledgeable, very easy to work with (she's warm and approachable—she'll put you at ease right away), and she's also a lot of fun! She really understands actors, and, it's clear to me, loves working with them. She's also a terrific voice teacher, and a terrific audition coach. Take a lesson with her. You won't regret it.

Shauna brought a whole world of new possibility to my acting, as I reached new heights with character physicality and also found new ways of accessing emotional depth within my character. Shauna always created an inspiring environment that felt safe to for me to push myself and not be afraid to fall. My experience with Shauna was inspiring and so valuable. I have taken a few classes with Shauna, the first two being acting classes, and the third a strictly-voice-oriented class. All have been great. The voice class I took with her was a group class that was only one session long, so I can't really comment on how effective the exercises were, as I believe one would need to practice more regularly to notice the effects! However, Shauna is a great instructor and I really enjoyed the class—especially learning some techniques that could be used in a routine vocal warm-up. The atmosphere was friendly and focused. I would definitely recommend her to anyone looking to improve clarity, volume, and connectedness in regards to their voice.
