Originally from New Jersey, Sharon Waxman began playing piano at age 5. At the age of 11 she added viola lessons and was recognized by her teacher as a natural at the instrument. After 6 months of study, Sharon was accepted in the South Jersey Regional Orchestra. At the age of 13, the Interlochen Arts Festival in Interlochen, Michigan welcomed Sharon as a performer, and later that same year, she earned a place in the prestigious Juilliard School’s Pre-College program in New York City.
After high school, Sharon studied music at Louisiana State University. Upon returning to New Jersey, she played in two professional orchestras: The Orchestra of St. Peter By the Sea and The Garden State Philharmonic.
She currently teaches group beginner classes in viola and violin to students of all ages, and maintains a small private studio in Vermont.
