I am a newly graduated journalist with the aspiration to travel the world and unshakeable ambition to do so. Through my position as a community assistant for South Dakota State University, I have provided guidance and support since August 2014.
I want to be a cheerleader for you!
I established this club to give people a platform for their ideas to be heard. Since its curation, TEDxSDState has helped 14 individuals share their ideas with more than 100 people.
Through this position I offered support, guidance, and encouragement to college students. I coordinated events that encouraged wellness and self-belief, and engaged with students to ensure they were having a safe and positive university experience.
This internship in Dublin, Ireland taught me how to interact with a worldwide audience. I created lifestyle articles for people aged 14-24 and gained a new appreciation for differing perspectives through teamwork.
In this role, I wrote a variety of articles to help women develop professionally. This was a virtual internship so I learned how to effectively use Skype, email, and other methods to maintain communication.
I first met Shaynell in Hon 101 at SDSU, and even though I hardly knew her, it felt like we'd been friends for years. Throughout my time at SDSU, we have crossed paths several times for Honors events, interviews, or even just in passing- and every time I see her she always has a smile on her face (it's practically contagious because I find myself having a better day afterwards). Shaynell is a cheerful, encouraging, and patient individual with great listening skills and a big heart. Her effervescent personality and determination make her a perfect fit as a life coach!+ Read More

Shay is remarkable at relating to anybody. She is the most accepting, kind, and patient person I know. Pair that with her ambition and unfailing positivity, and you have a real winner.
I met Shanell being involved with TEDxSDState. When I first met her, she was president of the organization and we organized and hosted SDSU's first TEDx event. Shanell really knows how to tao potential and encourage people to do great things!
I met Shanell when I started working at the same restaurant as her. She was friendly and extremely inviting! She made me feel like I fit there, to her I wasn't "new girl" I was just a new friend she wanted to get to know. She always has a smile on her face and honestly really never complained about a thing! She always gave 110% and would give anyone advice if they asked! She's helped me through some stuff for sure and she's been a great friend! I know if I ever need someone she's there!! I also know that Shanell would help every single person in the entire world if she got the chance and she'd do it with the largest smile, you've ever seen, on her face!+ Read More
I worked with Shanell at a kind of okish restaurant and she was the most inviting person ever!! She was one of the first people to say hi and introduce herself with a huge smile. She made me feel right where I belonged, not uncomfortable and not new. I got to see how beautiful of a person she truly was, she was there to help and support you with her all. She 110% and honestly never really complained about anything. She was always positive and hard working! I know the advice she gives is great and she definitely helped me through some stuff. She's a go-getter with a lovely personality and the determination to help as many people as possible (she would help the whole world if she could).+ Read More
