    About Sean W.

At the age of 24, Sean is already a seasoned fiddler, champion step-dancer, music teacher, composer, performer and studio musician. As a member of the internationally acclaimed band, Celtic Spring, Sean has appeared on America's Got Talent, Good Morning America, the Today Show and PBS. He has toured all over the world, sharing his passion and love for music to audiences in the millions. Sean grew up in a very musical family, and first picked up the violin at the age of 4. From that moment onwards, Sean has rarely been seen without a fiddle in hand. Born of Irish and Scottish descent, he has been immersed in the age old musical traditions of Ireland and Scotland. Studying under some of the greatest names in traditional music, including Natalie MacMaster, Alasdair Fraser and Martin Hayes, Sean has developed a proficiency and expertise on the fiddle. While he was raised in the Irish musical tradition of his ancestors, Sean is also a skilled classical violinist, bluegrass fiddler, and in recent years he has also branched out into jazz, rock, and pop styles. 20 years on the violin have allowed Sean a certain creativity and freedom that far surpass his youthful age. Whether jamming in the kitchen with family and friends, or performing on stage for tens of thousands, Sean's strong musical intuition and maturity flow seamlessly into his singular and exuberant style. While much of his youth was spent touring the world with his family's band, Sean has managed to have found time to hone his skills on the mandolin, bouzouki, guitar, piano and bass. He is the founder of the Glencoe Project, a folk/roots band that blends the traditional tunes of Cape Breton with a decidedly urban groove. Sean is also a band member of the folk duo, Hope and Justin, and worked as a producer and arranger on their latest album, Eastern Bound. As a member of Celtic Spring, Sean was a top 3 finalist on the 1st season of NBC's America's Got Talent, and in 2002 the band was named Grand Champion of the World at the World Championships of the Performing Arts in Hollywood. Sean is also an accomplished cook and gourmet food connoisseur. He is an avid backpacker, marathon runner, mountain climber, and road cyclist. Sean has spent time in Mexico and Haiti doing humanitarian and emergency relief work. He is an passionate world traveller and adventurer, having spent time in over 25 countries. In his free time, Sean loves to study philosophy, read great literature and poetry, write and play music, pursue organic farming, backpack, sail, swim, spend time with his six siblings, and travel the world in search of beauty. He is a recent graduate of Thomas Aquinas College, a small private liberal arts school nestled in the mountains of Southern California. Sean currently resides in the peaceful hamlet of Detroit, MI.   *** Lesson Details *** Lessons in Traditional Fiddle Styles/Classical Violin/ Guitar and Mandolin.
