BM Vocal Music Education/Composition

    About Sean U.

I am a New York-area based composer/performer and teacher. I recently finished my BM degree in Composition at Mason Gross School of the Arts, and I am finishing my Music Education degree this coming year. I have taught private voice, piano and composition lessons since 2016, and this past year I completed vocal pedagogy studies with professor Judith Nicosia at Rutgers. I believe that a strong technical foundation leads the way to healthy singing, and it is my mission to provide that foundation while also exploring the music of the student's interest. I can work with any genre of music while also providing the student repertoire from other genres. I can also help students prepare for auditions, performances, and evaluations. Finally, I believe that the vocal instrument is a continuation of the person who possesses it, and I can also help with song interpretation and communication skills! This is partially achieved through a fun lesson environment. As a performer, I have worked with companies such as the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Princeton Festival, BergenPAC, Thinkery & Verse, Rhino Theatre, Kirkpatrick Choir, Opera at Rutgers, and the Grange Playhouse. I have also accompanied at the Rutgers Summer Acting Conservatory and played keyboards in the pit for musicals such as Fun Home and The Wild Party. In addition to being a private music teacher, I have also served as the vocal coach and/or music director for various musicals around New Jersey. I love these experiences because I get to work with lots of different voices, help people develop musically, help develop a larger project, and also have a lot of fun. Every voice is unique, and my hope is for me to help get yours to what it truly can be. I am of the belief that everyone can sing, and have fun while doing it! I look forward to hearing from you soon.
