    About Sean J.

I see thousands of auditions every year, the overwhelming majority of which are unskilled and unmemorable. It's difficult to get the right acting training as many of the masters who came out of The Group Theater have since died. Acting can be taught. The myth of Hollywood tells you that popular actors are somehow hatched already with their natural talent. In reality, actors must train, Actors are reactive, vocal, imaginative, creative, emotional, and physical athletes and can develop their skill set with teachers who understand how to unlock the instrument of the human body. Wherever your starting point, you can see results and improve your performance. You can learn the techniques if you put in the work and know what work to put in. My teaching style has been formed and honed through over fifteen years of experience as a professional, union actor on stage and for the camera, Directing for theater and film, working as a life and business of acting coach, coaching private acting clients, shooting headshots in New York City, and recruiting and teaching for a major New York acting Conservatory. I am a graduate of the American Musical and Dramatic Academy and The New School. I have trained at The Second City Chicago, The Audition Studio Chicago, The Magnet Theater, One on One, and more. I have learned from some of the most notable acting and business of acting coaches in New York to Los Angeles including Roz Coleman, Bob Krakower, and Dallas Travers. One of my favorite quotes is, "Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, feed him for a lifetime." I aim to teach not direct. I work to help you discover not obey. I am both nurturing and challenging. At times, I will be as direct as you want me to be. At other times, I will be as nuanced as I need to be to help you understand something you're struggling with. When you succeed, I will be your champion but I will never allow you to think you've reached perfection. I expect you to do your homework. I expect you to know the plays and screenplays you're working from. I expect you to find smart, interesting material on your own and offer options so we can find what's best for you. I want students who want to get out there and audition and take initiative in their careers. (But, also enjoy clients who are just looking to express themselves).

    Acting Teacher | Coach

    Aug, 2013 - Present

    Sean David J. Studios

Took my clients' raw, unpolished scenes, sides, monologues, and songs and transformed them into impactful, honest, living works of art, which affect audiences and impress casting directors. Also, worked with clients to identify their personal brand, long-term goals, and create plans to achieve them.
