    Fundamentals of Music Theory

Want to have the tools to create your own music? Learn any instrument with greater ease? Then consider learning more about what makes music work. I have a background in formal music theory classes and lessons over the past 4 years of my college musical career. I can offer lessons starting with reading sheet music, all the way into advanced chord analysis. My primary goal with teaching music theory would be to help my students have a better understanding of music theory in a way that fits their needs, how it can improve their skills as a performer, or even create their own compositions!

    About Sean A.

I am a collegiate French horn player with 10 years of experience on my primary instrument, as well as many other brass instruments which I have performed within many different groups. I am pursuing an Instrumental Music Education degree at Appalachian State University where I have been principal horn player for about 3 years. Throughout my time in high school, I was active in my school band program, including jazz band, marching band, and symphonic band. I was also a part of many extra-curricular programs such as All-county band, All-district band, the Charlotte Youth Wind Ensemble, gig work, and more. In my high-achieving senior year of high school, our program was one of six schools across the nation to be chosen to participate in the Presidents Cup 2019 where I was one of two selected from each band to perform in concert with the Pershing's Own Army Band. I have leadership and teaching experience starting in my senior year as the drum major of my marching band. I firmly believe in servant leadership, meaning I never ask my students to do something I wouldn't do. I will always do what I can to fulfill my student's needs and to make sure they are cared for. My students will always be respected and encouraged to enjoy their involvement in music. Our group excelled during my time as a leader and I was awarded the John Philip Sousa Award for my contribution to the program. I have since worked as the drum major of the Marching Mountaineers for a season and twice as the mellophone music section leader where my duties would involve leading sectionals, working on developing great fundamentals and stellar musicianship Now in college, I have been a principal player in my horn studio which involves running sectionals and being a role model for my peers. I have acted as the music section leader for the mellophones for two seasons, and also as one of three drum majors for the Marching Mountaineers for the 2021 season.
