    About Scott M.

Hello! I was born and raised in Florida, where I attended the University of South Florida for my BM cum laude degree in Music Composition, and my Dual-Concentration Master's degree in Music Composition and Electro-Acoustic Music. I have been involved with music for my entire life, including playing in all kinds of bands since Middle School, and writing and recording my own music in my home studio nearly every day. I am primarily a bass player, although I can find my way on nearly every instrument in existence! *** Lesson Details *** Tell me what you would like to learn and we will learn it together. Whether it is getting started with basic musicianship skills like practice routines and playing technique, or how to read and write music for yourself, we can do it. If you want to learn how to play rock music or jazz music, we can do that too! I am very laid back and respectful towards my students, but it is also clear that we are here to learn! By combining excerpts from practice books with my own exercises and approaches, my students get a firm grasp on music that is not overwhelming yet remains extremely practical and exciting. *** Travel Equipment *** I have a few electric basses, an upright bass, a few amplifiers, a laptop computer with music software, various music theory books and other equipment. I do not mind if a student used some of my equipment, but I would recommend that they use their own equipment so they can become better-acquainted with their primary gear. *** Specialties *** I am a composer by trade and a bassist by hobby. I am very interested and active in contemporary music composition and regularly have pieces performed as a Masters student as USF. I have been playing electric bass in various types of bands since I was 15, and that includes pop-rock, hard rock, ska, jazz, and punk. I played upright bass in the symphony for two years and took upright bass lessons with Dee Moses, principle bass player of the Florida Orchestra, so I understand classical bass playing as well. I have taken plenty of music theory in the past so would be equally qualified to teach beginning music theory, although I am excited to teach electric bass and composition as well!
