    About Scott W.

I've been Teaching piano, and music, and developing my own revolutionary method for 25 years. I taught classes, and privately for 8 years at "Colton Piano" Superstores, several locations, all ages. Then my performing career took me around the world, playing keyboards in world famous rock bands. I have continued to teach, a select few students during that time, but now I'm opening my doors again to be available to teach YOU, and your family the wonderful world of Music! I teach all styles, in the process. Starting with YOUR favorite songs! Your skills and ability to play will grow as your interest grows, by having fun realizing that yes, you CAN make music, and even "play-by-ear"! *** Lesson Details *** Depending on student level. If you're a beginner, then we start with just getting acquainted with the keyboard. And then setting a goal, towards music "YOU" like, and learning to play it. If you've already had lessons, I always ask, questions like "Do you already know this"? Then we'll move on past it. And, questions like "If I'm using a word or 'term' that you're not sure you understand, then stop me, and we'll learn it. I'm very empathetic, to the process of learning music! I think it's exciting, and I enjoy teaching it because of that! *** Studio Equipment *** Downloadable Lesson Method Materials. Webcam. Pianos / keyboards / Synthesizers / Computer based Keyboards *** Specialties *** 1) Piano/Keyboard-"Play by Ear"/ while learning Music Theory. "I believe in the concept that we could get milk out of the refrigerator, before we could spell it. And we could say "refrigerator", before we could spell it. And Based on that understanding, eventually learned to spell it, and for some, even repair it." I've proven that music can be taught this way, in a gratifying way, without ignoring "Training" that traditionally has intimidated so many. 2)Synthesizer fundamentals. Whether it's a keyboard, or a computer. If you want to know what all those knobs do, ask me. Sure you can experiment. But There are a handful of knobs and buttons (ADSR/ Filter/ Envelope/LFO etc.) that are the same, across the gamut. That fundamental knowledge makes it possible to control every sound, and create them from scratch, into anything you imagine! If you don't understand what "MIDI" means, or "ADSR", I can teach you in a few short lessons. Knowledge is power.

Colton Piano & Organ / Private Locations

I've been Teaching piano, and music, and developing my own revolutionary method for 25 years. I taught classes, and privately for 8 years at "Colton Piano" Superstores, several locations, all ages. Colton Piano & Organ, was the biggest piano "superstore", and had 12 prime locations on the west coast. In the 1980s, it was a household name, because of it's frequent late-night television adds. It's founder, and TV celebrity was Vern Schafer, which is also a known brand-name of Pianos "Schafer and Sons". When Vern Schafer launched an in-store piano lessons campaign , heavily advertised on TV, I was asked to head up the program, (along with a few others) but I was in charge of the Tarzana, and eventually also the Pasadena California locations. I soon had daily classes, full with students of ALL ages, and trained and hired a teaching staff, to fulfill the demand. During my residency, I began cultivating and practicing my "own" teaching method. Which I now have decided to digitize, and share with my students. At the era of Colton Piano, I was in negotiations, and pursuing Vern Schafer, to publish it under his "brand", and to utilize location storage property at the freeway visible Tarzana store, to begin an actual chain of schools. But he retired Colton Piano, before this could be realized. I have since been teaching privately.

2 year completion degree for the "Film Scoring" program

This was the highest level of this school. We wrote an original film-score every week to syndicated tv-shows and movies that our instructors had worked on professionally. These were performed by live musicians (mostly professional, and some famous) / & orchestras, recorded, and critiqued.

1 year completion degree for the "CAP" (composing & arranging program)

    Jul, 1983

    Dick Grove School of Music

Besides the full-time curriculum, we were expected to compose an original score, and conduct it before a live 40-80 piece orchestra every week, in a different genre. It was recorded and then critiqued by our competitive classmates, and one or more of many legendary composers.
