Hey there, trumpet players!
My name is Scott Watts and I have worked as a professional musician and private instructor for 15 years, starting my musical career playing at Benaroya Hall with the Seattle Symphony and in jazz clubs in my teens. Over the years I have performed across the United States, Canada and Europe; working with and performing alongside some of the biggest names in classical, jazz, latin, and irish music. Notable persons include Gerard Schwartz and the Seattle Symphony, Wynton Marsalis, the Dropkick Murphys, Roy Hargrove, and Bobby Shew to name a few!

While many teachers have a set cirriculum that they have their students adhere to, I customize my lessons for each individual student. I have worked with a wide variety of students of different ages, musical backgrounds and preferences. While my students are most certainly challenged regarding practice routines and expectations ("Only Practice on the Days You Eat!"), you'd be hard-pressed to find a single student or family among my studio who doesn't have fun during lessons and grow in a love of music and of the instrument.

A key component of my teaching style involves helping students to find the musicians and styles that they love, so that they can not only stay motivated but also be formed into the kind of musician they want to be!

Hey there Trumpeters and Potential Trumpeters!

A few more notes about myself and my background...

I've spent most of my life working as a musician, since 1999, when I was 13. I took to the trumpet on the suggestion of an amazing public school music teacher when I showed up asking to join the jazz band without the ability to play an instrument or even read music...(had no idea what I was doing at the time)!

However, I started taking lessons with him that summer and by the end of the school year I'd gone from bottom chair to lead in every group at school and within a couple of years started performing with my teachers and with professional musicians in the greater Seattle area, then hitting the recording studios. By 15 I was invited to be a guest musician with the Seattle Symphony.

I studied under the Principal Trumpeter of the Seattle Ballet company from 14 to 18 and went to college with a passion for music. I studied music at the University of Maine and University of Nebraska at Omaha, performing, touring and teaching along the way. During that time, I joined a few small jazz ensembles, along with the university bands as well as a 20+ irish-rock group that I continue to play and tour with today.

I have also worked as a firefighter for over five years, and recently completed my training at Creighton University and earned my license to serve as an EMT in the state of Nebraska...maybe going for paramedic as well. I love working with and helping people!

I have a number of students in the Omaha area now and I would love to meet you (whether for online for online or face to face for in-house lessons) and see if you would like me to help you become the amazing trumpeter and musician that you want to be!

Thanks for your consideration and I look forward to meeting you!

Scott has taught me so much! He is skilled at WAY more than only the trumpet. He has always been able to break down extremely complicated things, so that even a Kindegartener could understand what he was saying.

Scott has a real passion for music and that is evident in his energetic teaching style. He is an extremely talented musician, able to play the tin whistle and trumpet incredibly well, and wants to share those talents with everyone he can. He probably gets even more excited when one of his students learns something new than when he himself does. I think he would rather see a student play a perfect piece than himself, which speaks to his generosity and great personality. If you're looking for an awesome teacher and mentor, Scott is a great choice.

Scott is a great teacher. He explains so that the student understands, and he takes time to motivate and encourage. Our teenage son really enjoys the lessons with Scott.
