Learn to play the guitar with a world-renown instructor.

Hi! I have been playing guitar for over 40 years. I was introduced to guitar by my older brother. He taught me Johnny B. Goode & we would jam for hours. I took some music classes at college but was a business major. Colleges only offered classical guitar & I was not interested in that. I have since studied six years with SF Conservatory graduate & classical guitarist Tim Lawler. Tim helped me learn to read music & develop my teaching skills. Thanks Tim! I have been teaching for over 25 years, making a living at it for most of that time. I teach group & private lessons. Most of my students are beginners. Many start out as kids & stay until they go to college. I have a lot of teen & adult students also, with many diverse interests from classical, jazz, rock, funk, blues, alt, pop, rap, punk, metal, folk, country, game music, Americana, reggae, bluegrass. I also have those interests. Students are studying with me; we are both learning. I enjoy it as much as they do. I try to help students learn how to teach themselves. I save students time, cutting through all the information in books & online, interpreting how music is written, how a YouTube video is correct or incorrect, how a song is really played, to make it easier or sound more like what is on the record, why you have choices but might want to play it this way, not that, how to keep an open mind. There is so much to learn about guitar and music, I haven’t learned it all yet. Let’s get started!

Hi! I have been playing guitar for over 40 years. I was introduced to the guitar by my older brother. He taught me Johnny B. Goode and we would jam for hours together. I took some lessons. I started a rock band and would play parties. I joined the high school jazz band. I took some music and theory classes at college but was a business major because colleges only had classical guitar study and I was not really interested in that. I have since studied six years with SF Conservatory graduate and classical guitarist Tim Lawler. Tim helped me learn to read music and develop my teaching skills. Thanks Tim! I have worked in music stores as salesman, repairmen, sheet music buyer, music school coordinator. I have also had side gigs from roadie to music consultant to ABC TV. I have been on radio, TV and in pit bands, church and community bands. I have recorded in famed studios and met famous guitarists. I have music on iTunes & Spotify. Music has been a big part of my life. I have been teaching for over 25 years now, making a living at it for most of that time. I teach group guitar lessons and private lessons and have literally taught thousands of people how to play guitar. You could be one! Everyone is unique, has different interests and learning styles. Most of my students are beginners, and many start out as kids and stay with me until they go away to college. I have a lot of teen & adult students also, with many diverse interests from classical, jazz, rock, blues, alternative, pop, rap, punk, metal, folk, country, game soundtracks, Americana, reggae, bluegrass. I also have those interests and find students are studying with me, we are both learning, and I enjoy it. I am mostly trying to help students learn how to teach themselves. I can save students a lot of time by cutting through all the information there is online, I become an interpreter of how music is written, how a YouTube video is correct or incorrect, how a song is really played, to make it easier or sound more like what is on the record, why you have choices but might want to play it this way, not that, how to keep an open mind. There is so much to learn about guitar and music, I haven’t learned it all yet, so ….let’s get started.
