Study with a world-renowned Professional Opera Singer

I am a Canadian Soprano, currently working around the world as a professional opera singer. I am based in western New York, and like to maintain a private voice studio even while performing full time. As I am often on tour, in other countries and time zones, I prefer Zoom lessons to ensure my students have consistent weekly lessons amid the chaos of my productions. I earned my Bachelors and Masters in Vocal Performance from the Lamont School of Music and until 2017, I was on faculty at the Denver School of the Arts, teaching voice lessons, master classes and lectures as their Artist in Residence for the Vocal Department. As a teacher, I incorporate my experience and knowledge from both my degrees, my extensive performance career, as well as my background in the Canadian Royal Conservatory of Music to make a seamless learning experience for my students. In the studio, I focus on developing a free and easy technique, devoid of physical tension and bad habits at any age or skill level! I strive to cater each lesson to my students' individual needs, discovering and developing their own unique gifts, while teaching bel canto classical technique. Within the first 3-6 months, students can expect to have learned the basics of breath support and improve tone, intonation and be working on musicality in a few songs of your choice! Typically, the lesson starts with a quick warm up, and then we get right to singing! We focus on correct posture and breath support, as well as the ease of vocal production and stage presence in all genres, including classical, opera, music theatre, and jazz. My students range from young children to adults and seniors of all abilities and aspirations. I also prepare pre-college students for their auditions and entrance into college music programs in voice and theory. I truly believe that with time and effort, anyone can learn, no matter what their background or experience level is! Currently accepting students for 30, 45 and 60 minute lesson slots. Thank you, and I look forward to working with you!

    About Sarah C.

Hi! My name is Sarah and I am a professional opera singer, music teacher and cat mom! Due to my crazy touring schedule, I offer remote lessons over Zoom to make sure that my students have the consistency of weekly lessons and are able to learn in the comforts of their homes. I have maintained a private studio for over 8 years now where I teach students of all ages and abilities how to use their voice more effectively. I specialize in opera, oratorio, classical song (including lieder, chansons and English art song), as well as music theater, but I teach all genres in a fun and engaging environment! Prior to my performance career, I was the artist in residence at the Denver School of the Arts (a middle school/high school performing arts school), where I was on faculty, teaching voice lessons, master classes, lectures and various seminars within the Vocal department. I prepared the students for auditions, college applications, and performance careers, for over 3 years. In addition to voice lessons, I teach music theory, beginner piano, speech, and elocution. I also coach music and diction, including Italian, French, German, Latin, and English, as well as the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA). I truly believe it is important to be a well rounded musician, and for me, teaching grounds me in the technique allowing me to be a better performer by learning from my students as well! I sing across the United States and abroad, with my most recent engagements included the Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, Chicago Lyric, l’Opera National de Bordeaux in France, and the Staatstheater Karlsruhe in Germany. With my musical background in the Canadian Royal Conservatory of Music, as well as both a bachelor's and master's degrees in music from the Lamont School of Music, I believe a solid classical technique and strong musical knowledge work together to form the foundation for performance. As a classical vocalist, one of my passions is vocal pedagogy. So as a teacher, I feel the most important job is to help my students develop a free and easy vocal production, devoid of physical tension or bad habits. I strive to cater each lesson to my students' individual needs, discovering and developing their own unique gifts, while teaching a general classical technique. In my studio, we focus on correct posture and breath support, as well as the ease of vocal production and stage presence in all genres, including classical, opera, music theatre, contemporary, pop, rock, country, jazz, folk, Christian, and gospel. Currently, my students range from young children to adults and seniors of all abilities and aspirations. I also prepare pre-college students for their auditions and entrance into college music programs in voice and theory; however, whether you wish to perform professionally or to sing in your local church choir, professional voice lessons can be a rewarding experience. Music and performing can help in all aspects of life, from presenting yourself in a professional manner to developing a work ethic. I truly believe that with time and effort, anyone can learn, no matter what their background or experience level is. Thank you, and I look forward to working with you!
