*Please note: If you are interested in online classes they will take place over Skype, Zoom, or FaceTime, not TakeLessons Classroom (for technological reasons)* In-person classes are in San Bruno, California. Hello, and thank you for visiting my page! I have been an artist for my whole life and I am passionate about sharing my love of creativity with others. I earned an MFA in Costume Design from UCLA in 2007 and have been a freelance costume designer, college professor, photographer, illustrator, jewelry designer, and private fine arts instructor. As much as I love to create, what I really love is to help somebody learn to do something they love and create something they can be proud of! I am happy teaching all ages, and I specialize in helping each student find his, her, or their unique vision. I can teach sewing by hand and on a machine, including how to read and understand the instructions in commercial patterns. Bring your project and I'll help you make it happen! I am highly skilled at teaching life drawing, as well as marker rendering and watercolor fashion illustration. Photography is my other passion, and I look forward to helping you understand how to use a camera's many features, and your eye, to create art.

After only one hour, I made a full 3 piece suit! Ok... so not really, but I did get a really solid introduction to my sewing machine. Sarah was super patient as she walked me through all the various pieces, taught me how to set up the thread and do a basic stitch. I still have a lot to learn, but this totally helped to get me off to a good start. I'd recommend her to anyone looking for a similar intro and wouldn't hesitate to work with her again if I get more ambitious and need guidance.

Sarah is patient and answered all my questions about using my camera in different situations. She answered my questions about shutter speed and aperture with easy to understand examples. I hope to have another lesson with her once I practice my newfound knowledge about photography!
