I am a professional clarinetist with 10+ years of teaching experience. Whether you are just learning to play or gearing up for a college or professional audition, I have the tools and experience necessary to help you reach your goals. My students have been accepted to: Special Music School, LaGuardia HS for the Performing Arts, Ithaca College and Stony Brook University; consistently receive Outstanding and A+ NYSSMA scores, and participate in Nassau and Suffolk All-County Festivals and NY All-State Festivals.
With 3 concerto performances and numerous orchestral solos, I've performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, The American Museum of Natural History, Symphony Space, Merkin Hall, and the DiMenna Center for Classical Music; and have appeared as a featured clarinetist on the Emmy Award-nominated series Mozart in the Jungle. I've served as a chamber music coach at Stony Brook University and the Sewanee Summer Music Festival, and have taught at the Long Island Conservatory, The Music Academy of Long Island, and Center Stage Music Studio. I've interned with Alternatives for Children, teaching general music to pre-kindergarten aged students with autism, have over 100 volunteer hours with therapeutic horseback riding methods, and received a corps member offer in 2015 for Teach for America. I played a key role in developing and running the ensemble program at the InterSchool Orchestras of NY, where I stay involved as a Youth Orchestra Consultant.
*** Lesson Details ***
I am excited to teach students of all ages and abilities! I offer beginner through professional instruction on clarinet, and beginner through intermediate instruction on saxophone. Whether you have a song you want to learn, are interested in learning to read music, or are preparing for a performance or audition - I can help you achieve your personal musical goals. During your first lesson, I will ask you what your personal goal is, and will set up both long-term and short-term lesson plans and help you come up with a practice schedule that will help you achieve it.
*** Equipment ***
Students are expected to provide their own instrument, materials (reeds, swab, cork grease, etc), music stand, method book and sheet music, and notebook.
*** Specialties ***
I have 10+ years of performing and teaching experience in classical music. I have performed as an orchestral, chamber, and solo musician, primarily on clarinet. I teach students of all ages and abilities, and structure lessons around your own personal goals, while always making the learning process be as fun and exciting as possible. I begin all my students with a strong foundation in rhythm, correct embouchure, and sound production - once the basics have been mastered, my students progress to incorporating rhythm and pitch into their playing by learning fingerings and how to read music with basic, fun melodies that they enjoy playing.
