As a teacher, my priorities are to create a safe environment in which my students can grow and learn what personally works for them. I believe that a strong technical foundation is important as enjoying the music, as developing a comfortable technique will give students the tools they need to succeed. Above all, cello should be a fun and engaging outlet for people of all ages.
About Sarah J.

I'm a current undergraduate student pursuing a Bachelors of Music in Washington state. I specialize in classical practice and emphasize strong technique and a collaborative lesson environment. One of the major issues that musicians encounter is tension that manifests most often their hands and wrists but can also exist throughout their whole bodies. My goal as a teacher is to help students become aware of the source of tension and how to find release within their practice and in performance settings. As a result, the cello becomes much easier to transverse and the overall sound will open up. In lessons, a student can also expect to learn a little about the history of classical music and the cello, performance practice for different time periods, music theory, and how to find an expressive voice on the cello.
