I have been teaching violin, viola, cello, and piano for 13 years. I attended the University of Texas at San Antonio for Music Composition. I studied with Dr. Eugene Dowdy at UTSA for String Project. I have also taught for NISD, Boerne ISD, YOSA, and St. Philip's College. *** Lesson Details *** When registering for lessons, make sure that the first lesson is only scheduled for 30 min, that is a "get to know me" lesson. In this lesson I will get to know the student and the student will get to know me. I will listen to music that the student already knows if they have experience. If they don't have experience, I will check them to see which books I would like to assign for them. Students will begin lesson with scales or etudes for the first quarter of the lesson. After this we will work on Theory for the next quarter. The last half of the lesson will be for solo work or extracurricular work for auditions and orchestra. This may seem like a strict schedule, but I am laid back and would like to teach the students what they would like to learn in regards to solos and extracurricular work. Beginners will know how to play basic songs and be able to read notes on the staff in the first 3 months. Middle School Orchestra students will be able to refine their skills to move closer to the front of their sections. *** Studio Equipment *** piano, guitars, amps, violin, viola *** Travel Equipment *** Student needs to have a piano *** Specialties *** I teach mostly classical style for violin, viola, cello, piano. But can also teach beginning fiddle music as well. I am not specialized in Suzuki, but I do use it as a resource. I also use Wohlfahrt etudes and Essential Technique for all of my older students (middle school and above) The younger ones use String Explorer. For younger students, I have a program that I call violin karate. It brings them through a belt system like karate and recorder karate. It keeps them motivated to stick with their instrument, when they don't have the motivation of being in an orchestra. I can tutor, also. If your child is in Orchestra and is behind in class, I can help them with their orchestra music to get them caught up and then start working on other pieces, once they are caught up in class.

Sarah is a great teacher. My two daughters, Niece, and Nephew ages 8-10 take lessons with Sarah and enjoy it very much. My youngest daughter is violin lessons and the other four kids are piano lessons. Sarah makes the lessons fun for the kids, and I love how all the kids learn so much each time they have a lesson. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for a music teacher!

I can't say enough great things about Sarah. She was an excellent teacher. Very patient when it came to explaining everything about Violin. Her teaching style is very flexible depending on what her students need whether you are a beginner or having already been playing for a couple of years. She will amaze you with the amount of knowledge she has about music and it really shows in her teaching. Never had to wait for a response either she is always on top of responding to her students in a timely matter. All in all if you choose to go with Sarah you won't be disappointed.
